Fans Stay On Poor Performance Changed Thermostat 8 Came to LIFE!!

Just wanted to post something that had had been bothering me about my 8 for the past 6 months....Every time I would shut the car off after driving for 10 or 15 minutes the fans would stay on for up to 5 minutes before shutting off. My temp gauge would never climb past the half way point, and the car would perform like...well...crap! At high RPM's it was hesitant...had the marbles in the can sound...would rattle....I was really dissatisfied with the overall performance of the car...not to mention the airbag light that would stay on...the heater control that wouldn't work...you guys get it...this list goes on and on....THEN!!!!....I can deal with the interior stuff but when it came down to the fans, I was pissed an concerned. As I said before the car never overheated and the gauge never spiked but I did notice the gauge needle was pulsating...While driving at highway speeds (I live in Hawaii) I noticed the needle would move up and down slightly....but never would overheat. So I went ahead and changed out the thermostat...WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Holy crap...the car came to life!!! First of all no more fans...they no longer come on at all...Second the performance is unreal...and I am getting better gas mileage!! I can nail it to the firewall and this Renesis comes to life...no more clanking, rattling, ect...smooth as glass. If anyone out there is experiencing the same thing...start cheap!! Change the $25 thermostat available at NAPA autoparts....you'll be surprised.

Most of the problems you stated are non-thermostat related btw.

Because haveing a good thermostat is essential to maintain prolonged drifts? duh:Freak_ani
Seriously though I was wondering the same thing.
