what gas do you put in your rx8?

hey just curious to what grade of fuel and what gas stations you guys prefer in toronto?

rickeo 09-29-2012 09:19 AM

Let me google that for you

I suggest read all of those threads and then if you're still curious, continue with this post.

Why would you consider anything less than premium or 93 octane? As long as you don't use a really cheap gas station you should be fine.

scorcherjf 09-29-2012 10:01 AM

I typically only use shell (91 oct no ethanol) as it seems to get slightly better fuel economy than Petro's premium with 10% ethanol.

mafiaboy01 09-29-2012 10:08 AM

I usually run Shell V-Power or Costco 91.

RX8Soldier 09-29-2012 05:42 PM

wondering why you're still wondering what gas to use... :dunno:

tonik 09-29-2012 08:21 PM

87 octane esso

JordysRX8 09-29-2012 08:25 PM

91 v power shell premium

E85 or olive oil.

DarkBrew 09-29-2012 09:22 PM

I use dino gas because synthetic gas is bad for rotaries... :evil_laug

Why are you using 87? On a completely empty tank you will only save $9-$10. Put 91 octane in, you're probably getting worse fuel economy with 87 and the engine won't perform as well.

Neo 09-29-2012 09:56 PM

Why in God's name is anyone using 87 octane in the renesis???
Engine was designed to run on 91 (or above if need be)

Get it either at Petro Can or Shell.

Forced induction cars should definitely be running Ultra 94 at all given times

StealthTL 09-29-2012 10:43 PM

Why?

- maybe just to push your buttons.....

I know its in the owners manual 91 recommended but I've been running 87 for 30xxx km now.

I got same mileage or maybe a little bit more for 91 but not that much..

The reason why I run 87
1. People here running 91 or higher still blew up the engine
2. The ECU were also program or can adjust the timing to run lower octane ( and also it can run 85% ethanol max i think..not sure about this)
3. Got same mileage or maybe a little bit less...
I'm tired of tracking the mileage of different octane rating of diffrent driving style.
4.Those $9-$10 I save, I will buy oil for premix, a mc happy meal and a LAP dance..oh yeah because i filled up gas 3x for 2 weeks so $60 savings for a month...lol..

Boeuf 09-29-2012 11:33 PM

Maybe you should just buy a corolla if you can't afford the gas.
Honestly, not running 91 octane is almost as bad as replacing the summer tires with all seasons.

Boeuf 09-29-2012 11:39 PM

If you're spending the money and time to pre mix then why not put the fuel in the car that it was designed to run on so you get the best performance out of your engine.

nahhh...you dont need to bash me to buy those civic's or rolla's
i do have a 97 toyota tercel and now have a 329xxxkm on its original engine...more fuel efficeint than your corolla....
its night and day for mileage compared with the 8 (rx8 for performance of course)
and oh yeah..i drive them both for summer and winter..both of them have summer and winter tire too..

I'm not trying to save money for running 87 octane..I can ditch my tercel if i want to..save insurance..
For me, why using 91 when you can run 87 on it..its like drinking tap water and a filtered one(keep it aside..were going too far.lol)..

Dont get me wrong here..I'm not proving here anything..the OP ask what octane we were using so I reply to his/her post...

premixing is another thread buddy..common..the OP just ask what octane we're using and now you guys are asking me why...lol..

I've spent 3 months(as I remember) on this forum before buying the car and after that, I dont know how many countless night I spent reading threads on this site..
what I do with my 8 right now were base on what i read/learn from here and of course from my personal experience..

You can run 87 but it's not recommended.
Mazda will actually void a warranty if there are signs of not using at least 91.
Research what higher octane fuel is for. ;)

On my first 8, I had a dealership try telling me the engine failed due to not using the recommended fuel rating causing my engine to run hotter.. of course I used 91 so I brought my receipts.

mine is 2004 and out of warranty..130xxxkm and still running strong base on my butt dyno...no hot/cold start issue so far...

and oh yeah..I dont redline a day(I quit..lol..) but I dont drive her like a granny either..

nate1162 09-30-2012 01:43 AM

The lower the octane the higher the risk of the fuel igniting prematurely. You want the fuel to burn during combustion not compression.

Boeuf 09-30-2012 07:26 AM

But is detonation really that bad for a rotary? (sarcasm)

Also, comparing fuel and filtered water is not apples and oranges.

And going back to my post about how much you save a fill up, $9-$10/tank was if it was bone dry, most of us probably only put 40-45l in if you're filling up with just under a 1/4 tank so you're really only saving around $6/fill up.

br0wm 09-30-2012 08:33 AM

i just started this thread to see if people preferred vpower 91 from shell, or ultra 94 from petro, and what their thoughts are on each.

ive been using ultra 94 since i purchased the car and had no problems, but been hearing alot of good about shells v-power

i was just curious on other peoples opinions

Boeuf 09-30-2012 09:08 AM

I use Shell VPower, my engine has the Cobb with the MM tune and I asked Jeff when he was tuning it if I should switch to 94 and he said there will be no advantage to 94 over 91 for my NA tuned car.
