Two months to go!
 

I was finally able to get around to washing and detailing the car, two months after it was put in to storage. It felt so good to start it up, and once again, I couldn't get the smile off my face. I can't wait for the next two months to be over and be able to drive it again. My only concern with storage is the rust on the discs. Will the rust be hard to get off, and will it damage the discs?

I would also like to thank everyone for their great source of knowledge. All the information was a fantastic help when trying to decide between the RX8 and G35, what to expect from the car, all its 'eccentricities', and winter storage advice. After several years driving a 'family vehicle' I couldn't be happier with any other car.

When you pull it out of storage just get up to about 80km/h hit the brakes a few times till you hit 40 or so and repeat about 2-3 times.

You live in Victoria and put your 8 away for "Winter"?

I'm dreaming of moving back there so I can drive mine all year long as opposed to the agony of waiting another 4 months to get my baby back on the road.

waste of money storing a car.. i can understand if it was a classic or a collector.. but the 8 aint an investment...especially if you are making payments on a car thats just sitting there in your garage?

what if you die a month from now?? wouldnt you want to have driven your 8 for that month.. lifes too short and unpredictable for me to make decisions like that... you live once, money comes and goes so do cars.. but life just ticks away with every second and it will NEVER come back! :Eyecrazy:

Of course, it's a little different here in Winterpeg. I don't want my 8 eaten alive by road salt, so into storage she goes.

Besides, I have my rusty (from winter driving) '90 AWD Talon as my winter beater. AWD makes for a better winter car, especially with winter tires.

If it's going to be in storage for 2 more months, why did you start it up?

Are you looking to add combustion contaminants to your oil that you won't be able to burn off, add additional cold-start wear to your engine and get condensation to rust your exhaust from the inside?


As for everybody against storing a car, it depends where you live. Vancouver/Victoria maybe not... but in a high salt use location? For sure.
In Halifax the abuse a car takes in one winter is unreal.. plus, with the cost of snow tires and wheels, plus insurance, it's cheaper just to park the car for 3 months and drive my truck.

We might not get a lot of snow in the winter, but we still get ice on the roads. They have been using a salt brine on the roads in this area almost daily since early November and will continue to do so until around mid February at the earliest. I choose to store mine for the winter as I live in a rural area where there is frequent black ice on the roads, rock faces on one side, canyons on the other and the only guard rails are very large fir trees - not exactly 'typical' Victoria conditions. As Redshift says - with the cost of snow tires and wheels, I prefer to drive my older front wheel drive car for the winter and look forward to the driving the 8 in the spring.

other than southwest BC.. i can understand why peeps would not want to drive the 8..

i was just stating my point to each his her own .. i dont care.

..when it snowed here for 3 days and was icy for like a week i just washed my car every second/ third day.. including blasting the fenders ... i like hangin with my car.. i even drive with my Zrated tires and polished lip rims.. i just adapt to te weather and love to drive my car every day.. if i dont i feel empty. ..just spray some wheel cleaner every third day.. and my wheels are ready to go.. just like new..

RX4LIFE - me be soooo jealous of you. Blizzaks just arent the same. Have no choice around here. Still winter is fun driving in the ice and snow and as for cleaning it---what better excuse do you need to pay attention to her??

if i recall correctly you were interested...as well they didnt come out as clearly as i hoped.. im going to take better pics if IT EVER stops raining here and wash my car!
