Transmission Oil for the 8 in Toronto

Hi Guys,

I did a transmission oil change about 10,000 k ago with Castrol 75w90 GL-5 as it was all i could find. I've noticed that its getting a little tough to get into gear sometimes and more scary than that it grinds every time i shift from 3rd to 4th at any RPM above 4500.

I'm hoping that using a RED LINE GL-4 Oil will help. Problem is I can't find it anywhere near me. (Oakville / Mississauga / Toronto)

Any Suggestions?

Thanks.

I thought you weren't supposed to use GL5 grade oil in the tranny? o_O

A grind on shifting usually indicates that the syncro's are worn, and changing gear oil may lessen it to a degree but wont fix the problem. You can try going to Redline MTL which is a lighter oil but in the long run that wont fix it.

+1 for Scarborough Mazda

They sell the MT-90 / MTL that you're looking for, 2 quarts should do it.
(1.75L, 1.85 US qt according to the manual I have)

Checking with a service manual it says GL-4 or GL-5 but I've read on the forums here that GL-5 isn't the greatest. I'll call up Scarborough Mazda soon.. Thanks

If your shift quality degrade suddenly, your clutch might not be engaging fully. This is usually caused by the clutch pedal bracket failing.
