Tire wear on rx8

hey guys was just looking at my car and noticed that my back tire passenger side the middle is wearing off the little line in the center of the tire is gone compared to other tires...the car has 29000km on it and i always felt like the back tire made a weird noise like it wasnt aligned or so...

do our cars have an issue like the z

cjkim 04-18-2009 05:48 PM

umm.. get an alignment then?
what issue does the z have?

if your tires are wearing speficically in the middle of the tread, you have too much air pressure in the affected tires (generally speaking) bad alignment will cause other types of wear, camber wear, shoulder wear, feathering etc.

well the tire is only on the back right side all other tires are fine :( as for the z i heard they had a cupping problem or something like that with the back tire

well check your tire pressures man. If all your tires are set at the correct pressure and the tire in question is filled with like 45psi, then it will wear in the middle and the others wont. the correct tire pressure for the car is printed on a sticker on the drivers side "A pillar" / the leading edge of the back door near the bottom.

rx8's are a very tire friendly car, i rotate mine often ever 5000km or so. They tend to wear extremely even. seems that you need to rotate your tires immediately and should be paying closer attention to you tires for uneven wear your alignment could have been thrown out from hitting a pot hole or curb. i also find people tend to power slide/drift while turning left more often then right which would wear out your back right tire quicker than the others you'll be amazed how much wear occurs from sliding around with soft compound tires.
So to answer your question no the rx8 does not have a tire issue anything like the earlier z cars.

Not that I know anything about tires..............lol real simple things to remember.
Tire worn in the center = over inflation
Tire worn evenly outer edges = under inflation
inner edges worn = excess toe out or too much negative camber
outer edges worn/cupped = excess toe in

These are basic tire wear rules. Accidents or other damage (hitting curbs holes etc) can cause other reasons for wear, but the above is a good basis to start.

shit i forgot that not everyone checks the tire pressure a few times a week. i just assumed someone would check their tire pressures before making an account and posting on a forum while assuming there car may have a serious problem before checking the simplest of things.

I've once read on the internet that you don't need to check tire pressure since it will refill itself...
