Spring Track Days --> Which Course Would You Prefer?

Hi folks,

we're going to be running at least one track day this spring to kick off the new season and I was hoping to gather some opinions on what you guys would prefer to run.

So far the prime candidates are:

Mosport Pro (Possiblie, depending on cost and logistics)
Dunville
Cayuga's Road Course

Those seem to be the most popular, although if people want to make a bit of a drive, the new Calabogie circuit is open (its about as far as Shanonville i believe).

Feel free to make any additional comments or requests, we will try to accomodate them to the best of our abilities.

This wont be limited to RX-8's only as we do have customers from various other car brands (porsche's for the most part, other mazda's of course, some nissan and subaru folks as well) who would be joining us. You will be more than welcome to bring your friends/colleagues and once we decide on a circuit and the details you'll have more than enough time to pre-register.

Mosport all the way!!!!!

Kart Racer 12-19-2006 01:50 PM

I agree with Neo, mosport would be great. However with the high costs, maybe cayuga would be better.

I was at cayuga in the late fall and can tell you that the track layout suits the RX-8 pretty well, better then Dunnville or especially mosport

Neo 12-19-2006 03:25 PM

Blasphemer! lol

Nothing will get you going better than running Mosport! :D

YT1300 12-19-2006 09:40 PM

If the Calabogie circuit is near where the Calabogie ski "hill" is, then for anyone living near Toronto, Shannonville will be closer; Calabogie is close to Ottawa, Shannonville is close to Belleville.

Mosport +1, but it's too far for me to go...

hehe, the RX-8 was great fun around cayuga, the cayuga infield is really tight but the 8 just gobbles it up, it's fun passing 911's in a rotary :)

I think in the end it will come down to cayuga vs mosport. for mosport we'd need flag martials because of the blind corners and whatnot as well.

having said that, neo, you up for a 10 lap "supa JDM battle!" (gotta say that with a Best Motoring accent :) )

RX8 JET 12-19-2006 10:17 PM

Mosport would be my vote. (not sure what Mosport Pro means but as I read the other replies it looks like it is the Mosport track that I have been on with the wicked turn 2, 4 and tight 5...) :ylsuper:

[QUOTE]Calabogie circuit is open (its about as far as Shanonville i believe)[\QUOTE]

From Toronto I would say probably almost twice as far . . . It's worth a road trip at some point, it's very long and VERY challenging. There are so many corners, elevation changes and a combination there of that it's really hard to remember where you are and what lines to take. It deserves some respect and will take some time to learn . . .

Kart Racer 12-20-2006 08:08 AM

looks like mosport seems to be the choice. Its one hell of a fast track in the 8, as there is alot of entry speed into the corners, but it is awesome fun!!

Neo 12-20-2006 10:06 AM

Khan,

I'm down for "JDM Superbattle!!!" :)

TLovr 12-20-2006 12:10 PM

you know chris, ur real funny, your willing to risk your fd at mosport goin inches away form a wall at 120mph, killing a set of $1000 rubber, and $120 of gas. but your afraid to get her a lil wet from the rain?! i don't get it man. " i dunno guys i might have to take the M3 to the meet tonight b/c there are a chance of showers next week!" whahahahahaha

merry x-mas man,

lov luigi

p.s. i think i should track the car at least once befor i give it back this aug, so i atleast know what kind of a sports sedan i got.. i'm down for whatever

Neo 12-20-2006 02:00 PM

Tlovr,

LOL! Very true. You bring up a good point. Getting the car wet is never a good thing. Both for the car and myself. TYrying to preserve the condition of the car so the less rainfall it encounters, the better for the body. And the less it encounters rain, the easier it is to keep her spotless! Even though it's not a very big car, it's still very painful to clean. Especially if she's been through a rainfall!

Taking the car to the track gives the car the oppertunity to stretch her legs. You don't go to the track to crash! You push the car a bit so it can loosen up a bit, but you never go beyond your comfort zone! You have to keep in mind the same car that got you to the track will have to get you back home. So you won't be going balls to the wall fast every lap. You're there to enjoy the car... :)

I can't believe your car is going back next year! Has it been 2yrs already??? What's the ETA on that POS Chevy you got pre-ordered??
Did you see the new trailer for Transformers??

Lates,

92tsiawd 12-20-2006 02:34 PM

I wouldn't mind either 3 of them but I think beginning of the season, something more affordable like cayuga would get more of a turnout (it will introduce more people to lapping their 8s or any other car), just kind of like a gathering at first and then we'll go over to mosport later on. How many track days are you guys planning to host?

Alrib 12-20-2006 03:30 PM

Mosport Rules!!!

Mosport first, Shannonville second, Cayuga third. No interest in Dunnville whatsoever. It would be great to see a bunch of RX-8s on the track at the same time. Most I've ever seen is myself and two others at a Solo I event last summer.

Lates,

ya man saw the new trailer it looks awesome not just cause of the F-body(camaro) but the whole movie looks awesome.

and ya this Aug (Aug 2007) she has to go back. i will miss her and i hope the next car will put a smile on my face the way this one did. i was thinkin of getting a bike(cbr600 rr, r6, gsxr600, zx6 rr, anything 600) and something a lil cheap like a Maz 3 for rainy days and snow(i will prob buy at auction). regarding the track obviously u don't plane on hitting shit but (just like on ottawa trips) but shit happenes thats all i'm saying, but hey man i will track her once before she goes, and km wise i'm way under i need to come up with 22,000km in 8 months gotta get my $'s worth. after living with her for nearly 2 yrs, i still love her just as much, and to anywho says they suck, cause they are slow, use gas, not a real rx. its not worth tryin to explain to them what the car is about, lets just keep this awesome lil secret(rx-8) to ourselves :) and i promise when the 400hp camaro comes in in aug/sept of 2008 i will not race any rx8 and woop my 1st true love, i will show it more respect then that

since she will be goin back i will also have a few parts to sell so keep an eye out guys

-k&n typhoon intake V2
- CF rear lip spoiler
-clear corners
-17's with snows (maybe will fit maz 3)
- red licence plate bulb will trade for stock(white) for free!!!!!

later guys

Mosport

-=drift=- 12-20-2006 10:39 PM

Dunnville. Mosport sounds cool until someone drive their car into a wall. Happens all the time. Dunnville is much safer and has excellent run offs if you get quirly. I love watching video on speed about mosport, but unless you drive there consistently, I think it would be better to go on more of a "beginners" track.

ROCKSTAR RX8 12-21-2006 10:01 AM

Mosport is a professional track everyone would have so much more fun if you have done any track days even at other tracks. Even if anyone hasn't done any track days there are also instructors on site to sit in with the individual for a few laps... Just take it easy and have fun that's what lapping days are all about.

Kart Racer 12-21-2006 02:28 PM

Im more concerned about price. Right now, my budget is tight for racing next year. And the rx-8 comes last when compared to running in a formula car.

More importantly, exit speed....171 at the end of turn 2!!!! :scared: :evil_laug

ROCKSTAR RX8 12-21-2006 06:45 PM

isn't that the ultimate rush RX8 JET?? lol

has anyone tested their top speed @ Mosport back-straight?

What class of formula are you going to run? I drive/crew Formula 4 (wings/slick/750cc bike motor) at regionals.

As far as a track ... anyone is good.

Mosport is fun but Shannonville/Cayuga/Dunnville are more realistic.

Alrib 12-22-2006 11:05 AM

Mosport top speed

Rockstar,

I do 190 km/h at the end of the backstraight if I come out of corner 5 in 2nd gear, 180 if I come out of 5 in 3rd. Car is stock except for RA1s.

ROCKSTAR RX8 12-23-2006 10:58 AM

I haven't tested the 8 on Mosport yet.. just wondering how it'd do.. my STi used to do close to 220 after the hump right before corner 8 if I really really late-break.. lol i guess there is a huge difference~

folks are Kensai racing told me that the Gram-AM RX8s are extremely fast when it comes to the track.. especially mosport cuz this way we get to rev the rotories to a higher rpm where the power band is!!

9291150 12-24-2006 12:19 AM

Never did the Mosport long track on the 8, just on my bike. I never looked, but I'm sure that section is the fastest I've ever gone I'm sure.

We'll prolly get more guys out at a safer track, so anything but Mosport long track gets my vote.
