Speeding ticket question
 

Hey guys,

Other day i got a speeding ticket on John Laurie BLVD in the 70 zone. Cop said he got me at 104km/h, this was at a bit before midnight. When he came up to my car he brought the laser scanner and showed me the 104 on the back of the scanner. When i got home i noticed that he did not tick any check box in the section that states how he clocked my speed. The options in that field are 1.Clocked 2.AirCraft 3.estimated 4.Camera 5.Radar/Laser.

He has my recorded speed on the ticket and the posted speed limit.

Would you guys think this is a incomplete ticket and grounds to be thrown out?

Ticket was $211 and i think the demerits are 3.

Well if you go to court he might show in that case he will tell the judge how he busted you and you lose or if he dont show up to court well I dont know what will happen.

DON'T PAY THE TICKET!

Just go to court, If you don't show up you will have to pay the fine + you could get your license suspended. You best bet is to go to court and hope that cop doesn't show up or doesn't prove the case then worse case you lose and pay the fine and get the points. Never just pay the fine!

if you want you can talk to one of those traffic ticket specialists and see what they have to say, The cost might be worth more than the ticket, but the demerits and speeding will impact the cost of insurance and maybe your license for the next few years.

John Laurie seriously should have a faster speed limit something like 90kph.

I should have a radar detector but there is so many other fun things that i want for my car(just bought 4 lexani n3000 tires 245/45/18 from contemporary MS for 145 a corner:)). I was just wondering that because he didn't tick that one check box that it makes the ticket invalid.

I checked on the TD insurance website and did the exact same quote and did one with no tickets, one with one ticket(less the 49km over speed limit) and one with 2 speeding tickets.

No tickets and one ticket as mentioned didn't effect the quote rate however 2 tickets added to the monthly premium buy 30 bucks.

I didn't realize that you have to report your tickets, i thought the insurance company just got the information automatically so that is the only reason i am fretting about it. If you don't report your speeding ticket and are at fault in a accident then they can completely disqualify all of your coverage and liability insurance.

I think that is to big a pill to swallow for myself.

Wow that can be a good thing and a bad thing. If you just got a speeding ticket, I would never show it to my insurance company, but obviously If I got into an Accident I would show it, unless there was barely anything and it was a fender bender.

I believe(correct me if i am wrong), if you don't tell them then that is considered insurance fraud and if you are convicted for that good luck getting insurance in the future. My main concern is hurting someone else's car or themselves and getting sued without coverage.....that would ruin your life..... like winning a inverted lottery, lol.

Yea that check box wouldn't invalidate the ticket I don't believe. You can try taking it to court and see what happens.

I just got new tires too =) Unfortunately I no longer have a gf in Calgary, so I guess I won't be hanging out with you guys again soon. I miss the mass straightness of Calgary roads =D Freeways are awesome!

Yes insurance fraud is BAD. nothing like a criminal record to say "Hi I'm not employable!"

^You will just have to get another GF in calgary then, simple solution. Then you can drop by the meets again. BTW, cant wait for a meet....and i am itching to put the summers on next thursday(call my crazy but i can work from home by dialing in to the VPN if it gets shitty outside).

I will probably stop by Calgary since I have a wedding to go to in Sept in Edmonton. I hear you guys have really nice weather right now in Calgary. I'm jealous, even though it's been above freezing here, it's just been...so all the roads are slushy, you can't keep the car clean for more than 30 seconds if you're driving!

Your best bet would be to challenge the ticket.. Also challenge the officer asking if he is radar certified and if he had pre tested the radar machine the day you were issued the ticket.. The standard radar machines should be testing and calibrated each day to ensure they are accurate and up to date. They do this by sending radar signals off 2 pieces of metal for which send back specific readings. This should also be documented if the traffic officer is following procedure and doesn't want to lose any tickets in court..


Successfully completing this INTERNAL check says absolutely nothing about how accurately the radar will display speed readings from EXTERNAL inputs. Usually tuning forks are used to perform this external calibration test. Since tuning forks are extremely delicate tools, and they need regular certification, .

thats not an error big enough to get the ticket eliminated. in Alberta, you should be able to just show up at court and the ticket will be reduced on the spot.
