So I think I understand this torque thing now...

Went to visit Al at his new dealership. Too bad he's selling Slowrollas now at Woodbine Toyota, but he let me drive his new Tundra. Oh man, I thought the Speed6 had torque. Even without brake-torquing the thing, I could tromp on the gas and it would spin the tires. Does someone want to donate to Thief's turbo fund? Speaking of which, apparently Al can get the same kind of aftermarket stuff that he could get at Mazda. So, who wants in on a V8 group buy? :D

01Racing 01-25-2010 08:22 AM

Oh Eddie your too kind! Torque is an amazing thing, when you stop the loud pedal the car/truck moves. No lag, boost, pop off valves, intercoolers, hoses etc. Just 401ft lbs...........................NOW! lol

Huey52 01-25-2010 08:43 AM

There's no replacement for displacement. ;)

Still, I do love the jet-ike whir of the rotary and its considerable 'thrust to weight' (and volume) ratio.

Kafka 01-25-2010 01:03 PM

All is good before you got unintented acceleration a la Toyota hahahaha :P

btw Al you still need pics taken for the dealership or what?

ZmFnZm 01-25-2010 02:44 PM

lol, now all you guys are Slowrolla fans!!!

J/K :)

Footman 01-25-2010 03:46 PM

not me.. heheeh still dodging them Corollas..! :)

2hit6 01-26-2010 11:53 AM

I like to see how that truck gets around corners with all that torque....side-ways!!!!

01Racing 01-26-2010 04:06 PM

The sideways is part of the fun! Accelerator pedal with issues.........5 out of 2.6million, lets see that's .00000192307% lol. My favorite is "what do I do if the pedal sticks?!" Ummmmm lets see, how about put it in neutral or turn it off. Good thing they never drove an older Mustang or an RX7 race car lol. We were in a race when the throttle spring broke, click ignition and coast into pits (cursing all the way)

Kafka 01-27-2010 08:38 AM

You mean FIVE MODELS oh wait...EIGHT MODELS eh? :P

I had to do this the other day, bitch had her left turn signal on and i was turning left, I started turning, she just gunned it straight through the intersection at me.. I roflcopter finger highbeamed and breaked and yelled as my co-worker behind me did the same thing at her. Fuckin' corollas.

Footman 01-27-2010 08:48 AM

LOL LOL

das rite!!!! FUCKING COROLLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hate them mother fucking corollas....

Maffu313 01-27-2010 12:40 PM

=) all is good as long as you guys don't start hating on camrys! haha

Redshift 01-27-2010 04:17 PM

I think you all just jinxed me. Leaving on a road-trip for work tonight, and my rental car turned out to be a 2009 Corolla. I can already feel my driving skills slipping away. Hopefully it doesn't un-intentionally accelerate me into a ditch.

In all seriousness.. I don't understand the appeal of these things. The $65 92 Corolla rallycross car we have has nicer interior plastics and feels less claustrophobic than this thing.

ZmFnZm 01-27-2010 07:33 PM

Lol

For us in the DFW area of Texas its Camry's ... GOD DAMN THEM, they are going 40 in a 60 and in the left lane... jesus...:dunno:

Redshift 01-27-2010 09:18 PM

Just spent 3 hours in the 'Rolla.
The rally-beater feels like a more durable better put together car. This 09 just feels cheap... so sad. I learned to drive in a my Mom's 91 Camry... loved that old thing...

Thief 01-28-2010 12:31 AM

I have to say, I spent a lot of time in my parents' Camry too. I do love how roomy the backseat is :D

01Racing 01-28-2010 02:26 PM

Toyota = Appliance 96% of market likes appliances

Mazda = Zoom Zoom 4% of market likes driving and zoom zoom.

While we the enthusiasts appreciate things like braking, cornering etc., the rest of the market couldnt care less, as long as the vehicle is quiet, smooth and reliable. Its very unfortunate but very true.:(

Footman 01-28-2010 03:39 PM

I fucking hate all corollas with a passion.. Burn them all down to the mutha fukin' ground!!!!!

My two rides!

The Tundra might be faster in a drag race but throw a single corner into the mix and the RX8 will be way ahead of the Tundra.

01Racing 01-29-2010 12:32 PM

OMG thats identical to the Tundra I was driving..................yes it was sold the other day:(

rotorcloud 01-29-2010 12:55 PM

Borolla's are the most boring cars in the wolrd. You can add Tercels, Echos and Yaris to the family... And they all seem to b driven by folks that are talking on the phone at the same time!

Toyota builds the most boring cars in the whole world and they seem to be selling them to the most boring drivers as well.

The only thing Toyota is good at building is trucks. My winter ride is a V8 4Runner with 300 ft-lbs of torque, all-time 4 wheel drive and 11" of ground clearance. Leave any 8 in the mirrors anytime the road is slippery.

But I love the 8 anytime weather is nice and things are dry. Low CG and 9000 rpm is so much more addictive :-)

I guess I am fortunate to own such good "bad weather" and "good weather" vehicles. I always have the option to choose the proper toy for the conditions!

2hit6 01-29-2010 12:58 PM

two different cars, built for different reason...how could we compare? it only comes down to the driver...lolz

Your absolutely right, Toyota does make the boring cars, and we sell them to people who dont care about performance. Having worked for both Mazda and Toyota now I can tell you one thing without bias. Toyota's are a whole lot less money to service and keep on the road, and worth a whole lot more used.

Having sais that, I am an enthusiast like your selves, I miss my Mazdaspeed 6 so badly I cant tell you! I miss talking to passionate customers about their cars they love so much. Other than the last few days....lol what i dont miss is all the complaining from Mazda customers (M3, M5 mainly) about going through tires and brakes at 30,000km, aligning their cars every year etc. I understand both sides of the equation now, you just have to realize that all the slowrolla and camergay drivers just dont care about the same things we do.

Neo 01-29-2010 07:03 PM

That goes without saying. As you said, 96% of the people out there don't really care about their cars. As long it gets them from A to B reliably, they think that's enough.

And then you have the people who drive "luxury" vehicles. They're just after the name brand. Step into a Mercedes dealer. Damn! Talk about snobs. They just want the luxury side.
On the other hand, you step into a BMW dealership, and it's a different story. They remind me alot of Mazda people. But they're still considered about the marquee.

BMW drivers and Mazda drivers get along very well. ;)
