So how bout that weather?

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but if you're in southern Alberta you're probably experiencing this nice -30 degree weather and huge dump of snow! I know I sure am (not) enjoying it.

Did I get this winter's first accident for our Canadian 8's?

Its not too bad. The guy wants to leave the insurance out of it and I'm going to hit up the dealership tomorrow for an estimate. If they give me new accents that one will be up for grabs.

dude that sux. we havent really got anything here. we had a light dusting of snow before noon and this is the first real sub zero temps we've seen. theres a bit of ice everywhere and people dont seem to realize it as is usual at the begining of winter every year. no one ever learns...

mscamp02 12-07-2009 07:52 PM

wow that sucks I hate to see that happen. At least its not to bad

MrAdam5 12-07-2009 08:31 PM

Every year you always say to your self "maybe this year people will smarten up." But no, the first snow hits and everyone and their dog is in an accident by weeks end!

We had a big blizzard on Friday that brought us about 1.5ft. Throw in some wind and you get some pretty killer snow drifts. On Saturday I had to shovel through two feet deep snow to get to my car. All the way from the door of my house to the door of my car.

Oh well, lets hope for this fix to go through nice and quick and for this to never happen again to anyone.

i remember last year in October the 3rd week waterloo got like 6 inches and I still had my summers on (my car is seasonal) (messed up my front end) and then this year I store my car October 15th and we don't get snow till today, and even then its only a light dusting.:icon_no2::rant: haha. At least someone hit you and not the other way around! haha

Thumper3322 12-08-2009 09:26 AM

That sucks man...doesn't look to bad tho which is good and better than the front end.

HIT - GET A WINTER BEATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially where you are, you are crazy drivin your 8 in those winters. If I get in an accident in my beater I will keep driving it and go hit someone else and so forth...hehheee love not worrying about my precious..lol

Saturday night I kinda said screw shoveling more. Even left the sidewalk that city by-law says I have to shovel. I'm so naughty.

Anyone ever have their car not start from it being so cold? Today it was -31 according to the thermometer in the car, -38 according to the radio, and she started like a dream.

Also got my estimate today. $930 for the bumper, painted + clear, and labor.

azzuro 12-09-2009 02:41 PM

MrAdam: I'm not sure on your by-laws, but here if it's still snowing you don't have to shovel. You also get 24hrs (or something) after it stops snowing to get the snow cleared away. At the time it seemed like it would be easier to shovel a few times with a small-ish amount of snow rather than one enormous amount of snow. I'm not sure on the logic of that.

I've certainly noticed starting is fine in the cold. It's the transmission that is the issue. Seems like it turns to jello.

Any idea what the other guy's damage is likely to be?

Its more of me being lazy than anything. I'm sure the city law is something like that, if you wanted to get all technical and such. I prefer to do the big shoveling over shoveling a bunch of times with a little fall of snow. Gives me a sense of accomplishment I guess, haha.

The other guy's damage wasn't anything more than mine, just his front bumper. He was driving a 2010 VW Golf Wagon.

Sorry to hear you got hit.

In all honesty, I'm surprised by how well this car handles the snow and the cold. It started with no issues in -25C and other than clearance, this thing is a mountain goat. Uphill, downhill, no problems. My main concern is getting hit by other drivers who can't stop or maneuver.

That being said, Calgary roads are a joke. There's whole parts of the city that are still buried and it's snowing...again.

i couldnt agree more with you about the 8 in the snow. mine is great. on par or better than my FWD lancer ralliart was. but that car had less ground clearance and alot of torque concidering its weight. BTW, my baby started last year in -35 a couple of times when we had a cold snap. no problems at all. it was so cold, the speedometer and the radio displays couldnt keep up. the speedometer would go from 15km/h and by the time i got to 25km/h it had almost caught up. haha.
