Rust?

Hey guys,

I have an 04GT and I just noticed rust on the inner portion of the rocker panels. Located where the doors meet on both the passenger and drivers side. Has anyone else noticed any rust on your cars, and I yes what was the best way to fix it?

Thanks

Angle grinder/wire wheel to remove the rust and POR-15 before you paint it. Is it possible your doors are rubbing the rocker pannels? If so you might want to adjust your doors.

not on my car personally, but when i was looking at some 8's I saw one with rust in that exact spot... must be a common place.

yeah what snrub said. make sure all the rust is grinded out. otherwise it'll be coming back. then por-15 (works amazing) and then shortstrand fiberglass over it. or some other body filler.

I discovered this on my car after I bought it. Very small, was just starting, but looked pretty clearly like it had rubbed... stripped it down, repainted with a few coats and put silicone grease on the door sill and the part of the door that contacts that part to prevent whatever rubbing action from eroding the new paint... time will tell...

It's a common problem. I had my dealer remove the rust and repainted the spot, it hasn't come back since.

There was a TSB about this.... Couldn't find it now...
A small self adhesive plastic cover was installed in the area. If there was rust it had to be repaired first.
