Running Lights ... dark

Anyone else have their Daytime running lights not work all of a sudden? Possible the switch or whatever relay that turns them on/off with E-brake?

If so what was the issue?

BTW ... anyone here from Burlington with a Black 8 and personalized plate?

i had that a while ago. One of your drl bulbs has burnt out. Once one burns out, they dont work anymore. The easiest way to check is park against a wall or garage and pull the ebrake up, you will notice one of the lights flashes but the other doesnt.

Both are dark and don't turn on at all. This kind o crap under warranty?

KartMan.....

Kart guy is right, one of your DRL lamps has burned out, and no, that kind o crap won't be covered by warranty.

Put your hi-beams on, one will be out.

The DRL control sends 12 volts thru both hi-beams in series so they only get 6 volts each, and are dim. When one dies, they both go out. If both hi-beams work, but the DRLs stay off, that is the module, and may be covered.

This happened to me too. Why are the DRL halogen bulbs so flaky? Let's hope the HID system has better reliability down the road. I'd hate to have to service that.

Had the problem

I was driving in Mt. Tremblant last winter, went to put on my high beams and they came on brielfy before dying. Next day noticed the daytime running lights also didn't work. When I eventually took it in for service, they told me the daytime running lights abd high beams are one and the same bulbs. If one bulb burns out, the system will not illuminate the other bulb (i.e. you can't drive with just one daytime running light on). They replaced both bulbs and it was covered under warranty.

Replaced my light under warranty. No issues.

Speaking of light, am I imagining it or did the gear numbers on my shift knob use to light up red at night? I've only had my 8 for a little over 2 months and my memory sucks. Well it's no longer lighting up..

Would anyone know where the DRL module is located ?

StealthTL 10-20-2006 11:12 AM

Module(s).....

The module is behind the glovebox on the left side against the heater.

(The wiring diagram indicates it is one module but the arrows point to two..... :scratchhe )

The module is probably not marked, but has a 16 pin and an 8 pin connector.

Good luck figuring out the 'logic' on it - no rhyme or reason.

If anyone wonders, the DRL module is the culprit if daylights start acting weird : one or the other is off, the other is brighter. So don't go changing any bulbs or have a tech spend an hour figuring it out like it happened to me (warranty just ran out). I have had burnt DRL replaced under warranty before that - both have to be changed indeed.
