replace windshield

Has anybody had the replace their windshield yet? After having to pick many chips I finally gtot a crack. How much do these suckers cost?

LiTTleRX-8 Mar 16, 2007 10:13 AM

I replaced a windshield on my other car for $199 plus a free oil change...
There's quite a few places around with similar prices, so your best bet is to get a quote for the 8's windshield...I think it's generally around the $200 mark unless the 8's windshield is rare or something.

I got mine done at http://www.windshieldsurgeons.com/wi..._surgeons.html

Windshields can vary in price greatly. Anybody repalce the one on the 8? About 1.5 years ago I checked and it wasn't even on anybody's system for ordering.

I have not replaced mine, but I just phoned the body shop I trust here in London. They estimated around 500-600 inclusive. The windshield itself was around 400, and they seem to have a different part# depending on the RX8 year (but whether that means the glass itself is any different from year to year I don't know)

Hope that helps.

I just got a quote. For a windshield with home link its:

$379
$409 with tint band

That's not as bad as I expected.

i used this company: www.safelightautoglass.com

the front windshield was around $460 with home link & auto-dim. they can either come to your house/ office, or u can bring the car into any of their nationwide service centers.

comes with a lifetime warranty on the glass. some of my glass even had "made in japan" stickers on it. so i know they use high-grade stuff.

StealthTL Mar 16, 2007 02:04 PM

Not so sure....

Usually I'm a big fan of the made in Japan sticker, but with glass I'm not so sure - I felt that the original glass didn't put up much "fight", it's pocked, cracked, split and bulletholed. :fingersx:

Canadian made replacements for my old Acura were always strong like bull......

the original glass sure gets marked up easy by rocks. I hope when it is replaced that the new one is a bit tougher.

About a year or so ago ... i got a crack in my windshield and got a similar quote as you ~400. But I decided to go ghetto and so far it hasn't spread.

early 30's crisis Mar 23, 2007 06:23 PM

A few years back when getting a chip repaired in my old car, the guys had a sign in their shop saying they could fix cracks up to 36" long by pretty much the same method. Full warranty on their work like the chip repairs..

Maybe you could look into that versus replacing if your windshield isnt horribly pitted and in need of replacing.

Just had mine replaced yesterday. Took about an hour.
Insurance covered it, but the invoice said $409.

Sorry to bump old thread, where did you get your quote from rotten42? My windshield just blew up, and I need it fixed as well...

Hellbreed Jul 5, 2007 09:53 AM

I've had to replace my windshield after both winters I've driven. Both times it cracked in March after a cold week was followed by a warm sunny day. First time was on the driver side, the following year was the passenger side. I had mine replaced at Apple Auto Glass, I think it was about $500 or so the first time, the second time it was $200. On the second time around I complained and said it must be a defect windshield, actually I think the first one was also because both times there was no sign of it being hit by anything. Also, both cracks stemmed from the clip they use to hold the windshield in place, these clips are only used for positioning and are useless once the windshield is installed. The second time I only payed their cost price for the glass, also they removed the clips and replaced with velcro to hold the windshield in place in case the clip was causing issues. Guess we'll see after this winter what happens.

Kris had his done. I think that he paid $250 for it.
