Ottawa RX8ers! Listen up! Group BUY!

Ok, I have a contact (kind of) at Hawkesbury Mazda, the guy is motivated and seems to know what he is talking about. He also seems like a no B.S. type guy.

This guy offered me the test drive on the car despite me telling him I can't buy for 10 months.

So I'm wondering if everyone in the Ottawa region (I know there are 5 or so) wants to get together with this guy and do something.

He states he sold 4 and is getting at least 7 more that are not spoken for. He said they sell more cars than any of the Ottawa dealers, and I wouldn't doubt that people go there because they provide better service.

They WILL deliver the car. They WILL provide test drives as BOTH managers will be driving an RX8!

Rather than people going their without contact first, let's get something together. I can send this guy a list of names that will contact him or something.

Let me know when you want to buy. He realizes it sucks that Mazda didn't release the car until now, he said Mazda was stupid should have had the cars out in April they would have sold thousands.

So, maybe we can get a group discount? Maybe not, maybe we can get exceptional service (which cannot be done in Ottawa).

Let me know, maybe some suggestions.

As per my PM, I'm in. Doing group buys usually means that only 1 person deals with the sales guy so that it takes less time then dealing with individuals. Otherwise there is no incentives for discounts (he's not saving any work). We have to do the leg work.

We need our best negotiatior at the point to get the best deal. There should be some sort of discount for 5 or more cars. When I was looking at the TSX, Acura dealers were all saying, this is a limited release only x cars are coming this year so no discount blah blah blah. The Toronto group buy managed to get a $2500 discount on a car that was just 2 months old (in the end I believe that they represented 7 cars).

I don't expect this kind of discount but $1,000 off for GT's isn't excessive either (some US guys are getting $700 below MSRP and that is for 1 car). So if we come to this guy, and say that he can sell 5 or 6 cars in 5 minutes if he agrees to these prices. A good fleet sales manager will definetly listen and evaluate. Specially if they don't have to deliver all the cars at once. I know Wing, needs to wait 10 months, I'm in no rush but middle of October would be nice.

Anyone else interested?

Mac, totally agree. I'm pretty good with negotiating, went to future shop bought a digi cam..... for $250 tax in instead of $349+ tax...... not really sure why they agreed LOL!

Hmm, I think you need to change the subject to Ottawa Group buy so more people will know to look inside:p

Can't, I'm sure they will look though..... just a matter of time.

If not I'll make another post and link it to this one.

Interested, but I've already negotiated with Bank Street so I'm willing to give them the first opportunity to get me their first red GT and buy out my lease without altering MSRP.

Good luck guys, hopefully we'll be able to have a get together later this fall once the deliveries have been made.

Thanks for the info about hawksbury. I will not be in the market for a new car until next fall and will be looking at either the 8 or the MS Miata. Hope to get a test drive before then but don't want to waste the sales reps time now. I will keep the info in mind for next year.

While I've read some aprehensiveness from other Ottawa members, my Mazda experience at Bank Street has been better than any another dealership locally (and did I shop around!). They were the only ones to perform 100% of the requested warranty work on my FD (unlike Performance) without extra unauthorized BS costs (read: Carling). They delivered my Protege GT ES on time and at the promised price (which no other dealer could match, let alone believe). I've been able to test any car requested (were willing to let me take a MS Protege for a rip, but since I wasn't really in the market for one, I felt guilty and declined), and the 8 will be no exception. They've been 100% professional in negotiation on the RX-8 in terms of price and specs, so I see no reason to doubt them.

Same here. I deal with Mike Milke (sp?) at Bank St. He drives an FC and knows rotaries.

Not had any problems with my Miata service either. Only problem I have had was that they installed an aftermarket block heater that popped out and blew the engine after only 600km. The put in a new engine and OEM block heater and had no further problems.

Got my winter tires through them and got a good deal compared to getting them myself.

Will have to wait and see what happens next year. Do I replace my Intrepid with the 8 or get the MS Miata with 180hp? Decisions Decisions.
