I'm not an RX-8 owner yet, but took one for a testdrive last night and will likely be buying it within the next week. So a meetup would be extremely beneficial for me (even if I don't have my RX-8 yet). Sadly I'm out of town this weekend, but I'd be interested in meeting anyone from Calgary pretty much any other time!

Already read them all, but just re-read them. Didn't think about getting it compression tested, however I'll definitely take it in for that. I was going to take it to a 3rd-party mechanic and get them to give it a once-over though. Just created a thread with a bit more info about it at https://www.rx8club.com/purchasing-financing-insurance-56/feedback-07-rx-8-gt-206578/ if anyone wants to toss in some feedback.
How does everyone find that it handles in our freakish winters (obviously with winter tires on)?

It's getting going from a stop that can be painful at times, like when on an incline. Starting in 2nd gear with tsc/dsc off can make life easier.
I have had no trouble getting her fired up parking outside in -40 weather with no plugin. The 8 was spewing fumes like mad and revving herself up to get warmed though.

Sure let's meet!
I just put my winters on and guess what? +22 degree weather!
Whatever, a few more days of summer weather is worth wasting a bit of my winter tires.
Anyways... I live by chinook, how does everyone feel about meeting around there?

I just ordered my winters tonight, which'll be interesting considering its 10 days to ship, and its supposed to rain/snow (and be below the magic temperature) starting Saturday/Sunday :O
I'm totally up for meeting though, as we discussed via text Hope to see a few others out here too.

So, if my car is fixed up, and I decide to keep her (I think I got a lemon, as things keep dying, and I get horrid mileage), I'll definitely join for a meetup.
I know of one other person with an RX8 in Calgary, who might come (Corey, who is also on here), and I think our buddy Edwin is also getting one very soon, if he hasn't already.

I'd love to come down, but my RX8 is being a naughty girl... I've had huge troubles with her since I got her in November. Cat caved in, so I got that warrantied, then the TCS started acting up, but they won't fix it until spring (since they blame it on ice, even on dry roads), and now I can't even start her up. I'm thinking I've lost compression, so they're looking at it tomorrow. Already replaced the spark plugs on it, which were extremely fouled (so much for Kramer Mazda checking that before I got it, and last time I asked them to!)

Let us know how kramer treats you

Few weeks ago my engine flooded while turning a corner (kind of strange, so I knew it wasn't just cold weather, but was due to something breaking). I towed it back to my garage, and replaced the spark plugs with brand new ones, but it still wouldn't catch. I had Kramer look at it yesterday, and they concluded that it was the trailing coils that were shot (but supposedly the lead ones are fine). They wanted $240 for deflooding it (supposedly took two hours), and they wanted another $340 for the two new coils and labour to install them.
So I did some research, and told them that I was just going to order four (so they'd all be brand new) from rotaryfx.com, for $240 (shipping included), and do it myself. Lisa, my advisor, then told me that the ignition coils sold there (N3H1-18-100B-9U) were not the same ones that were in Canadian RX8s, and they would not work. I politely informed her that she was incorrect, and she said she'd talk to the rotary specialist there, and get back to me.
Now my coils are being covered under warranty, so I only have to pay the $50 deductible for it, however they still want to charge me for the deflooding (which was caused by the coils). I'm going to be ripping into them, as the deflooding should be covered, since there was nothing I could do about it (I deflooded it myself, but with the broken coils, it didn't do much good).
I also asked them to run a quick compression test, as the flooding and all that came after may have damaged things, however they want to charge for that as well. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I didn't think it took an hour to run a compression test...
tl;dr - I'm not very happy with Kramer Mazda (and Lisa specifically, as she keeps giving me the runaround). On the bright side, I get my car back this afternoon, and will be doing a thorough inspection myself, just to be sure they did what they said.

So I have an update on my RX8, and my opinion of Kramer Mazda.
Lisa (my advisor): Hopeless. Wanted $120 to run a compression test after my engine flooded and multiple ignition parts failed. The ignition system is under warranty too, so IMO, it should be free. She also didn't know that the ignition coils were under warranty. And she told me that I didn't even need a compression test because she "floods these cars at least a few times a week, and they're fine".
Alex (The mechanic I talk to): Wonderful. Doesn't know a ton about rotary engines, but he is learning, and making a huge attempt to keep me informed about exactly what is wrong. Definitely doing his best to take care of me, and make sure my car is running ASAP.
The nameless mechanic who is actually working on my car: No clue who he is, but he is one of the most experienced mechanics at Kramer Mazda, and he seems to know his stuff. He has diagnosed multiple issues, and attempted to remedy them, in a short amount of time. Since they started working on it yesterday morning, I've talked to Alex (any time the main mechanic has an update) five or six times. Not bad for a day and a half.
Now for the bad (or good, depending on how you look at it) news: I'm getting an engine replacement. Alex ran the compression test (for free) after Lisa shot me down, and the numbers are extremely low. They've already put in the request, and are going to keep me updated on the replacement status. I'm also going to be talking to them to see if I can get the old parts back (they've already agreed to give me the old coils, but I've got a feeling they'll want the engine back) so that I can learn a bit more.
Back on topic: If either of you do want to meet up, I'll definitely be there, but I'll be rolling in a chevy venture for the next few weeks :P

I have now upgraded to my fourth vehicle this month (other than my RX8). Now driving a 2010 Ford Fusion :P Had to fight for a free rental, but in the end, the service manager gave me one.
So mid-april sounds great. I now have a car to at least meet you guys, and it gives me three weeks to hopefully get my car back on the road. Cross iron is a bit far for me (I'm deep south), but I've only been there once, so I don't mind the drive :P

yeah mid april sounds good to me too. Spencer now that you are getting the new engine your car is going to be way better and at least kramer is doing its job! They are suposed to have the best rotary mechanics in town, they used to work in all the rx7s so you are on good hands

Works fine for me.
As for the car, they ended up replacing the engine (or parts of it) with remanufactured parts from Toronto (or so I'm assuming, I've yet to hear everything), and then found that the lower intake manifold was shot. They were going to replace that, but ended up cleaning it out instead, and got that bit working, and now they're replacing some hoses and gaskets, and then I should be good to go. *fingers crossed*
I will hopefully have my car by the 16th, but I'll be good to meet regardless :P
