Nexen Winguard
 

Has anybody had any experience with Nexen Wnguard snow tires?

I've searched the forums for Winguard with no results, tho some have tried other models of Nexen tires.

Good? Bad? Let me know! If you have them, where are you running them? (What city?)

No experience with the Nexens. When it comes to tires, my advice is get the best that you can afford. I haven't done much research lately, but 2-3 years ago I spent many, many nights researching winter tires. There are many considerations to take into account (i.e. do you want high speed performance on relatively dry days/roads or do you want to be prepared for the worst storms). If it's teh latter, the Michelin X-Ice are probably the best bet. If you're leaning towards a more performance oriented winter tire, I would also look at one of the Blizzak offerings (which I have on my R3) or the Pilot Alpin from Michelin.

I don't have any experience with the Nexen Winguards, but I have read a few reviews and they seem to be mixed.

I believe they're also known as Roadstone Winguards, so a search of that name might yield more results.

If you're still deciding on a Winter tire, the Automobile Protection Association website and Tire Rack might be helpful. Although they don't list the Winguards, there are a couple of tires that seem to be pretty good and affordable. I've heard good things about the General Altimax Arctic and the Dunlop Graspic DS3.

I went through a long review reading process about this time last year. I ended up with a set of Xi2 on 17" rims. Bought them from Tire Rack, and had them shipped to Blaine. Alloy rims and tires cost less than just tires alone locally. (1010TIRES.COM® — Tires and Wheels Absolute Authority. was the next best price locally)

(255/55/17 on MSW Type 14 rims for $1,091 USD received in Blaine)

I got really lucky coming across the border, and after declaring them and showing the invoice, I was waved through with no HST or tire levy charged.

There's a shop in Langley that is affiliated with TireRack now, I think. You put the order together on TireRack and tell them what it was, and they order it, pick it up, and bring it into Canada for you. If you are interested, I'll dig up their link.


At any rate, the tires were great last winter. I didn't really take it out in any snow, but the cold, rain, slush, etc. were no problem at all. Looks like I'm going to be putting them back on this weekend.
