Newbie on board

Hi all, just found you. Bought a new 8 just last August, a '05 silver GT with sunroof from Brampton Mazda.

So here's the intro...name is Rui, live in Georgetown, nice roads up here! Never been so floored with a car, though I'm still a motorcycle guy first, got a Fireblade and a BMW 1150. After testing the 8, a G35 coupe and 330i coupe, I picked the 8 since it was as much fun as the Miata I once had yet it still had real space for my 2 young sons.

At 37 I think I'm older than most of youz (is the z cool?), but gearheads are gearheads, mostly.

Hoping to learn more about the car, I'll try to come out for the GTA get-togethers. I did nothing to it yet, nothing but ideas so far...

Welcome and congrats.
There is a 905-meet this friday @ Dave & Busters.. check it out.

Happy Posting and ZOOM ZOOM!!

Welcome.
Don't worry. There's quite a few "older" people on here. I'm not one of them though. I'm only 41.
There was just recently a thread on this Canadian forum asking about ages. Have a look.

Shamblerock 01-26-2006 03:47 PM

Welcome. You are going to enjoy the car and chatting with the members here. I'm 44 and probably the oldest in the west. Still young at heart though (my wife refers to it as immaturity, and she's right!). Would love to have a bike but would certainly kill myself testing out top end routinely.

Meeting at Dave & Busters tomorrow night (400+7). Bring your kids along for the ride occassionally. I do and they love it.

Ya...the are a few of us old farts here too. Make sure once the car is broken in that you hit the redline once a day and keep those apex seals clear.

Man, you guys ARE old!

'In our prime' is the term we prefer.

Welcome to the club and great colour choice! See you at the meet on friday!

BlueEyes 01-26-2006 06:39 PM

I should have read your message first. I was sitting there trying to figure out what the 50 had to do with a 92 Porsche 911 :Eyecrazy:

Welcome.

Neo 01-26-2006 07:15 PM

Come on out to the meet! The more the merrier.. :ylsuper:

Lates,

abs016 01-26-2006 08:32 PM

I am 24! Man... I feel out of place :$

9291150 01-26-2006 10:34 PM

BlueEyes, 929 (Fireblade) and 1150 (BMW) are my bike displacements...couldn't think of anything witty. A 911 would be nice, but my wife would have me sleeping in it!

abs016, if you are 24 and about to buy an RX, you're in a good place! Advice as a former bank manager...spend away, you're gonna be working for the next 40 years anyways!

Hope to come by tomorrow, can't stay out late though at my age

Exactly my thinking. I am young. I work hard. I should play hard and have some fun. I can spend a bit now and then work away another 40 yrs and save up.
:)

THANK YOU sir for the kind words. Much appreciated. :)

Welcome from probably one of the "older" females on the forum (39). I also have the same love of bikes that you do - though I am more of a cruiser fan myself. I was looking at buying a Harley before I bought my RX8. In the end, I decided to go with the 8 as it was the more practical choice and keep my Yamaha Vstar. Enjoy your toys!!

Darkrose - its nice to meet another woman with the same interests!! I don't think there are many of us around. And yes the black cherry pearl night rod would look great parked beside your 8 - I assume you have a Shinka... Very nice!

9291150 01-30-2006 09:29 PM

Wow, two riders here.

Darkhorse, the Nightrod would be my Harley of choice, though try renting before you buy. I had a Heritage Softail in the Keys for 4 days and decided cruisers, or maybe Harleys, ain't for me. Oh, 920 virago's never die!!!

04RXchk, thanks for the welcome. I think you made the right choice buying the 8 and keeping the V-star. Different toys for different moods and needs, I always say.

Now I always hear woman making fun of us grown men and all our "toys", so what do other woman say about you two and your bikes and 8's??

9291150 01-30-2006 09:33 PM

Um...Darkrose, not sure where I got Darkhorse.

...need sleep.

Darkrose 01-31-2006 06:33 AM

Yes, I have a Shinka. :) Hopefully, I'll be able to rent a Nightrod with the mid-mount controls before I buy. Sat on one at the NY Motorcycle Show and loved it.

I don't know about you 04RXchk, but everytime someone looks into my garage and sees the Virago, they automatically assume it's my husband's ride. :hahano:

He doesn't even ride.

My girlfriend here at work rides, and I also know many people whose wives either go two up or have their own ride. My family...well......my dad doesn't like the fact that I'm riding. Everyone else doesn't really encourage or discourage it. I set out on my own to learn how to ride. Always been a fascination of mine. My husband allows me to be me, so he encourages it.

A lot of other people who know me, just know that I'm that kind of person to own these things. I've been called "speedy", "trouble", "crazy", "zoom, zoom". Comes with the territory I guess. :)

I just do the right thing for me.

Daddy 01-31-2006 08:52 AM

How practical is the 8?

9291150,

How old are your kids? How practical/impractical is the car in day to day living? I am toying with the notion of trading in a 4 dr sedan for the 8, but really don't know! My kids are 2.5 and 10 mos, but the car is a secondary commuter car.

There's been quite a few threads about which car seats fit, etc., but I just wanna know whether there are big comprises with the 8.

Thx!

9291150 01-31-2006 09:19 AM

Hi "Daddy" in response to "How practical/impractical is the car in day to day living?"

I have a 9 and 3 year old, and my 8 replaced a Passat 4 door. Things like hockey bag transport, I take my wifes truck. Otherwise, my kids love it. Tons of space and comfort, booster seat is no trouble, and the center tunnel is a great place to sit their portable DVD player for longer trips (and the outlet there helps too!).

You should see the happy smirk my 9 year old has when I drop him off at school in the 8 in front of his friends. It not a practical as a four door (i.e. have to take me seatbelt off to and open my door to let him out, but atleast I don't have to get out like in a 2 door).

Go for it, you won't be sorry.

gonnahanvan8 01-31-2006 09:41 AM

The car has LATCH anchors in the back. it's perfect for car seats and boosters. The rear doors make that sort of thing easy.

Pete 01-31-2006 03:49 PM

Welcome and Enjoy !
