New Member from Montreal Area :-)

Hi all,

My account just got activated today. Good timing, because today I also took delivery of my brand new 8!

Owning a Rotary was a dream when I was in high school. Back then, I have always admired the RX-7 and the Rotary Engine, the 50-50 weight distribution and the rear wheel drive which has became a rarity these days. Much later, after I got a job and making enough to afford one, I inquired at a Mazda dealership about buying a new RX-7, only to be told they had stopped production. I bought a SUV instead to have fun in the snow (I live in Montreal)!

Now, I still own an SUV for the the winter as well as a double garage, so I realized that old dream two weeks ago and got a nice end of year deal on a new 2009 RX-8 GT. Do not have to drive it much in the winter (thanks to the truck) but I still bought winter wheels and rubber set to take her out on nice dry cold days like today, so cold everything was dry, still looked clean and shiny after my first drive. What a nice car to have fun with. Best I can have with my pants on!

Before the 8, I was driving a 4 door Civic Si. Lots of fun, but I got tired of the front wheel drive and the jerky steering under torque and traded her for the 8!

Before the Civic Si, I used to ride sportbikes at insane speeds. I am very much used to the left lane! However, in the last few years, I grew up, got kids and folks started talking on the phone while driving so my wife asked that I give up motorbikes so here I am driving sports cars. Still miss the performance on two wheels but rather enjoy the cornering grip, the safety and the sound system in the sports cars!

So, today a dream of mine has come true: I have became the owner of a pure breed Rotary Engine Rocket! Had a nice drive, enjoyed the flat cornering and the controlled tail slide. Pure extasy. Love the engine sound and the handling.

Also happy to join this bunch!

Cheers,

The rotorcloud (gyratory cloud produced at the junction of a strong wind and a major mountain ridge, the rotorcloud is well known by glider and hang glider pilots for indication of a strong updraft and free lift)!

From Montreal as well, got into and accident with my supersport bike during the Summer of 2009 and ended up buying my 04 RX-8 with some of the insurance money.

Welcome! (even though I'm pretty new myself)

Thanks all,

Driving the 8 is definitely addictive.

I do have a question: anybody around here do their own maintenance, oil changes? Where are the engine oil drain plus and oil filter located? I have a garage and tools and can do it all myself. Do not feel like wasting my time at the dealer ship to wait for them to change my oil, check my light bulbs and lube my door hinges... I would rather do it in my own garage while drinking my own delicious coffee, not their disgusting "socks juice"...

Seriously, I only plan to go to the dealership once a year so they can service my brakes, as per the OM. Anything else I can manage. Anybody else doing their own maintenance please lemme know...

I do all the maintenance my self. All the plugs are real easy to find. I have the workshop manual for the 2004-2008 model which is very similar to your model.

You should consider a membership to the local ratary club www.clubrxquebec.com.
They are a bunch of good fellows with deep knowledge of all the particularity of the rotary engines.

They usually meet every friday during the summer season. You would be the first 09.

Welcome in the club.
