1.8T actually |
Veedub's are never a good DD.
Congrats on the Fiesta... it'll more than make up for the pollution/fuel economy the 8 gives out. :) |
The 1.8 TDI died? Not as reliable as a rotary eh? ahahahahah
|
Ken Block would be proud :-p
|
Well now I can take my time and work on the 8...
BHR ignition and Sohn adapter are waiting to be installed. The Vdub lost power steering and hand brake plus it needed brakes, clutch, body work... blah blah blah... I can't have two garage queens... The little Ford is a pleasure to drive around day-to-day and the GF loves it! |
Just wondering why the Fiesta over the Mazda 2, was it a better price and warranty? Or did you not even look at the Mazda?
A review of the two: http://www.autos.ca/car-test-drives/...vs-2011-mazda2 |
I know why... because of the auto tranny.
On paper, the Fiesta makes more power, has more gears, and slightly better accommodations out of the box. On the 2, it's paper offerings is not up to snuff. The biggest difference is driving them. Despite the fact the 2 has a 4 speed auto, it feels alot better to drive. But alas, there will always be differences in what people will purchase. Regardless, he's got a good DD now and he can get to work on the 8! :) |
I'd wait for the SkyActiv Mazda 2... I tried the 4-speed auto, it's bad..
|
I just cannot stand slush box trannies... simple as that. But I needed auto for my GF and for my daughter.
The Fiesta has a nice automated 6 speed manual and retains a lot of its European heritage. The Mazda 2 is lighter but pays for that by being noisier on the highway and harsher over bumps. But really there was just no way I would ever get a 4 speed slush box. Total deal breaker with the Mazda. It is also important to me to have a comfortable but fuel efficient vehicle for road trips with the GF. Also the Fiesta is rated high for safety which is a big deal when my daughter borrows the car. $50 fill up with regular gas is good for 600 to 700 km of normal driving... Last point is emotional... This is a car you can love... It's cute and fun; a combination maybe only Mazda can compete with. BTW, Ford will be adding a turbo one litre three cylinder capable of something like 65MPG in the Fiesta so stay tuned. Mazda has great competition... from Ford of all places.... This is my first Ford since the '70s... And that was a hand-me-down... |
The Skyactive Mazda 2 has been released in Japan.. it'l probably come to our shores next year.
The auto version should be a 6Sp Sky-drive transmission if you're looking for automatic. It's got the 1.3L Skyactiv-G engine good for 55mpg as well... The current Mazda 2 is not worth it... |
How do you like the dual clutch? How does it compare to tiptronich vs. MT?

The manual in the Fiesta is only 5 speed, is slower and has a worse mileage rating... The auto shifts are barely detectable in normal driving... Sometimes if you are switching from braking to power quickly the trans has just enough lag to be noticed. It's still breaking in so no flogging yet :naughty: Come visit at http://fiestafaction.com |

Is this a 3? Sat in a 6 a week or so ago and it looks different.
Looking at this thread, I don't know how you'd recommend Ford DCT. Supposedly it's a very problematic transmission. I have a Cousin with a 15 Focus with DCT and she is noticing some issues with the transmission when climbing hills. |

We had two Fiestas. One with DCT clutch issues and one that was perfect. The dual shaft oil seals were a big problem for some of the units. A warranty repair on the contaminated clutch pack didn’t really help. Not sure if they replaced the oil seals. There are YouTube videos about it. |
