might be a tranny prob?

when i shift from 1st to 2nd it's not grinding but it feels rough or it's just not smooth and definitely feel it under the seat that it's shifting and i hear a chug or thud sound not really loud but you can tell, then today i had my cousin drive the car while i'm in the passenger seat i just notice that everytime he shift i could feel it underneat the seat, any info would be great thanks

our tranny's are notoriuos for having issues?? how many km's do you have.....mine has been doing this for a while now. I went to mazda to have them look at it and they basically said that I would have to replace the clutch to ensure any work they do on the transmission wouldn't be in vain......anyways, this isn't uncommon, but you should try to have it looked at.

What year and build date is your car?
What is your mileage?

I have the same problem.

I just thought it was normal, and sorta put it aside.

Let's see what i get from this thread.

I was considering swapping the tranny/diff fluid the the RL shockproof oil.

In winter, before the car warms up, there's always a bit of hesitation entering 2nd gear. Changing to synthetic transmission fluid helps.
Early 2004 models had an issue with the 2nd gear shift fork. There's a tsb for that fix.

i have a 05 with 39 000 km thanks for the reply

I have this problem too. When it's cold, it's a bit difficult to shift to second, however, when I spoke to the service manager at the Mazda dealership about it, she said it was quite normal. Is this correct? I have an 05 with approx. 56,000 kms on it.

Hey, Can you link me that TSB...?

Gecko69 12-31-2007 05:53 PM

I tried the TSB thing with my dealer and they still are giving me the run around......don't know where the link is but they WILL NOT honour the tranny warranty unless I replace my clutch at the smae time.Wrote Mazda Canada a while back about this, still waiting for a response. I have an 04 GT with 70000km.....warranty covers the transmission until 100000km. I have sythetic oil in my diff and tranny and there is still a bit of hesitation when its cold. Urgh, clutch started slipping bad on my way to work......I knew as soon as I talked about it again I would jinx myself.....ah well its about time I guess....car has been having a mild grinding issue for about 8 months....what can you do:dunno:

XXXrx8XXX 12-31-2007 05:55 PM

change ur oil to red line mT90 it helps and change ur rear differential my car has only 15km and the oil was black in the rear diff and as for second going in grinding it fixes the problem not completely but its better specially when the car is warmed up its smooth into all gears

Shot in the dark but check the clutch pedal bracket for cracks.

Wow.....Your car was grinding issues, and it was left of 8 months...that sucks.

Wth is power train warranty then if they wont address this problem with the tranny.

Which gear did you grind at?

2nd?

Gecko69 01-01-2008 06:52 AM

yeah it grinds into second when above 5500 rpm and I have gotten incredibly good at rev matching on downshift into second....which I avoid lately......they are giving me a hard time.......anyways, time for a new clutvh for the next road racing season anyways, will give me time to break it in.....
