Laptimes for Cayuga Road Course

Does anyone know what is considered a good laptime for a stock RX-8 around cayuga? or what about RX-8's in general?

qtwre 08-14-2007 10:09 PM

Not sure. On another note, where did your vendor section go?! I thought your company left the rx8 market or something.

ROCKSTAR RX8 08-14-2007 10:57 PM

I think an average 8 should be 1:30 ~ 1:33 and someone fast should be about 1:23 ~ 1:25

KhanMotorsport 08-14-2007 11:21 PM

^ that's a pretty big spread. what did you run at CSCS rockstar?

ROCKSTAR RX8 08-15-2007 12:04 PM

I think the last time I did time attack without testing the car on the track ahead of time and it was 1:30.07 the first lap...and I timed at 1:27 or so a few laps after.

This past event was a bit un-organized so I didnt even bother putting on the slicks and just went for a few warm-up laps with my girl in the car...

The track is really good for lighter more compact cars and their drivers to have fun.. but they really need to have people out there to clean up the cones and the track at CSCS events...

KhanMotorsport 08-15-2007 12:08 PM

haha yeah there were cones in the infield.
did you run RA-1's?

i managed a 1:32.2 or something in a stock RX-8 (stock fluid, stock pads..stock shitty dunlops :( ) so your 1:27 with slicks in the hands of a good driver seems more than reasonable.

ROCKSTAR RX8 08-15-2007 05:27 PM

Program was that I was running full interior and a custom system in the trunk... otherwise I'd think it should be a bit faster with the RA1s... some FWDs are pulling under 1:25s...

I never timed my bike events there, but some of guys who had transponders said they timed in at about 80-81 seconds, though they are very advanced riders.

I was only able to spend about two hours at the meet, but I noticed several 8's on the track. Rockstar, you were flying along nicely, as was the blue 8 with the non-stocks rims/tires. Quickest I thought was that lowered M3, plus a grey heavily modded S2000, an extremely loud civic, and 84Racing's old RX7.

Someone here should organize a RX only event.

I'm down with an RX only event. There's enough locals we should set something else up.

The quickest bike times at Cayuga was 1:17.... 81 secs is crazy!!!

ROCKSTAR RX8 08-16-2007 05:30 PM

the Hard-Top S2000 belongs to a good driver, and the car is also set-up very well... We have been racing on Mosport together all summer this year!!

That blue E36 M3 seems fast when I looked at it, and Al's RX7 is a full race car but I know he wasn't pushing hard... but still fast!!

I know a few of us weren't pushing the cars at all just because of the condiiton on the track, cones everywhere, that just turned me right off... I didn't even bother doing the TIme-Attack that I registered for... Just took my buddy and the wife out for a few cruising laps.

It was a good day to see that many Mazda owners out there, but not an organized event..

Omar,

At the last CSCS event there were two RX-8s that competed in SS-RWD class. Results are here: http://www.cscs.ca/content/view/45/70/
Both drove on R compounds, the 8 with a time of 1:25.77 was on aftermarket springs and Tokico D-spec shocks. The 8 with a time of 1:29.67 had aftermarket springs and Racing Beat sway bars.

ROCKSTAR RX8 08-17-2007 11:58 AM

dude this result was from the TA event in June!!

Alrib 08-20-2007 01:17 PM

Rockstar, I know it's from June. I asked the Time Attack organisers for my times and they flat out refused. Said it would be on the net soon, I'm still waiting. Amateur hour!!!

ROCKSTAR RX8 08-20-2007 06:42 PM

Ya.. I think I waited about a week or 2 last time before they post the result... it's a good track, just need to be a bit more organized...

Kart Racer 08-20-2007 10:32 PM

Last fall I did a 1.28.xx in my stock RX-8.

This spring I did a 1.30, mind you, that was done with what I later found out was a completly blown apart spark plug, I couldnt even pull past a tuned neon down the straight....

ROCKSTAR RX8 08-21-2007 08:35 AM

I think we have established that at Cayuga it should anywhere be 1:25 ~ 1:30 for RX8s... depending on the driver.... on this track, lighter cars will have the advantage to go faster. When I used to drive F2000s on Cayuga, even tho they only have 125HP but we were going 1:17s 1:18s

Thanks man, I was the blue 8 you mentioned. I ran the time attack with an overheating engine and a corded tire, didn't notice until I swapped my rims out that I can see 9 inches of cord. Me and my buddy should ask for copyrights for putting a picture of us on their flyer.

Kart Racer 08-21-2007 02:30 PM

yeah, if your under 1:30 in a stock 8, i would say your going pretty quick.

But I think 1:25's are out of the car's stock capabilities, as a good friend (and Rolex DP driver) only managed a 1:24 - 1:25 in an STI, so we know the 8 cant do that even with him driving. I would guess a 1:26-1:27 is more likely the quickest it can do stock.

92tsiawd 08-21-2007 03:15 PM

Actually, all you need is springs, shocks, brake fluid, negative camber and a set of R Compounds and your car will have a capability to get a 1:25. My friend consistently hits 1:25s with no mods at all to his engine.

I guess you didnt fully read my post. I said in "stock" trim. Without a doubt I would be faster then a 1:25 with the mods you listed.

scorcherjf 08-22-2012 09:43 AM

bumping an old thread but I thought I'd add another data point...

My stock R3 on the stock rims with 225 bridgestone potenza RE-11 tires (pretty old) did high 1:26's on cayuga last weekend. i think the line can be cleaned up a bit to get down to the high 1:25's.

Curious to hear about people's more recent times at cayuga? I've seen an MX-5 miata do 1:24's (with coilovers and 235 NT05's) so I thought that was pretty impressive.

2hit6 08-22-2012 10:13 AM

Interesting discussion. I didn't time myself at when I was out at cayuga last time. What equipment is everyone using for timing?

scorcherjf 08-22-2012 10:48 AM

If you run any of the CSCS or SRTA events they give you a timer so you can check out their websites to view historical times to see what different cars are getting (although what mods they have is unknown).

Personally I use trackmaster on my phone (gps based) as well as recording Gopro video. The app is actually quite accurate when I compare it to the video. On iOS you can get Harry's lap timer I think, works well from what I hear.
