Information on Car Meets around TO

Hey guys,

I moved here recently from Montreal where we have a pretty strong aftermarket/sportcompact scene including regular weekly meets in different locations across the city.

I figure with a much bigger population and a significantly higher average income when compared to MTL that TO would have the same types of meets, but when searching on the web I wasnt able to find any general TO car sites.

So my question is are there big meets in the summer that happen on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, it would be cool to get out to one a couple times and see what the scene is really like here.

Thanks

So Ill take by the non response that such meets dont exist, thats cool, I was just wondering, I guess its possible the community isnt as close knit here, like I said I was just curious.

We have meets which are posted in the Canada forum and on the RXclubofontario.com site.
There is a Bruce County meet this weekend and a TO cruise July 23rd.

You shouldn't give up after only 9 and a half hours...

JD81,
I meant to write something sooner, but I was busy on the RX-7 forum... ;)

Darkbrew hit the nail on the head... He graciously bumped the Bruce County meet... check it out, it's going to be a great weekend for cruising!

Darkbrew,
I take it you're coming up for the cruise???

Thanks guys,

I hadnt really given up, I just figured the car community in general wasnt as close as in MTL. Unfortunately I wont be able to make it to Bruce County, is that meet just for Rotaries?

I knew that people on this forum were trying to get some meets together, I was just wondering if there was sort of a universal car meet during the summer on a weekly basis.

Well, unlike Montreal, T.O. is very strict on having modded cars roaming the area. Even if you're not modded. They'll pull you over for the hell of it!
Back in the day it wasn't so bad. But thanks to those damn F&F movies, the scene has become less and less interesting due to the low number of cars.

If you want to check out some meets during the summer there are 2 places they always gather. 1. Woodbine and 16th. 2nd is in Dudebridge, Martin Grove & Hwy7.

Now that school is out you'll see those places occupied more often. But be warned! There will be cops out most nights along with enviromental police!! So you take your chances...

Also, most of these hang outs you'll get to see alot of punk ass kids out with Daddy's/Mommy's car. So expect alot of unwanted attention!

Lates,

Ya I guess the scene in Montreal is a little bit more laid back although at the bigger meets the cops hang around to keep the random idiots in check. Also it sounds as though the scene in Montreal is a little bit older so this might add to the laid back feeling, nobody is really trying to show off or race. Anyway thanks for the information, i might drive by at some point. Im guessing these things happen on specific nights.

Neo 07-12-2006 04:06 PM

I thought the more mature crowd would be in Montreal... ;)

Most nights those places are busy... Typically Wed nights, and of course Friday's and the weekend.

I don't think you'll find a laid back crowd in the bunch... alot of hooligans out there ready to prove their Daddy's/Mommy's car is "better" than yours! LOL :)

Drive by... you might find the odd person who actually respects cars for what they are...

Lates,

Thanks for all the info NEO, Ill probably role by maybe stop and see what the crowd is like but I have a feeling it wont be great, Im too old for the show off crowd now, maybe when I was 17 and I thought it was "cool".

By the way I heard the Ottawa seen is amazing now, I used to live there and it was pretty decent and laid back but a bunch of Montrealers usually put the effort in now to drive to the meets for the night, and they keep saying how cool and big the scene is, and very diverse, muscle car guys hanging with the Japanese tuning crowd thrown in with all the euro tuners, everybody gets along and respects each other, sounds nice!

Neo 07-13-2006 09:50 AM

I wish we had that type of crowd around here... too bad everyone has to prove something...

It's gonig to be a scortcher this weekend... should see alot of interesting cars out and about...

Lates,

JD, Welcome to T.O. I am a Montrealer myself from the St Laurent area and I know exactly what you are talking about. We have some meets occassionally. I won't be making the Bruce Cruise but will be at the July 23rd one. Hope to see you there.

BTW, GO HABS GO!!!!

JD81 07-14-2006 10:06 AM

Shamblerock, I definately miss the Montreal scene but I cant complain about TO in any way shape or form, well maybe some forms, Ive only been here a year but Im really enjoying myself, plus I go back often enough, Im from the West Island by the way, Beaconsfield to be exact if your familiar with that neck of the woods.

Anyway thanks for the welcome, its good to see more ex Montrealers.

If there is one thing I miss, its the restaurants ... Chenoys, Dunns, Schwartz, Marvins, Marathon's, Lafleurs....

JD81 07-17-2006 08:38 AM

I definately here you on that one, but Ive never heard of Marvins, where is that? Maybe Ill check it out next time Im in the city.

WOW! They are legendary! They are located in Park X off Ball st I beleive, a few blocks north of Rockland shopping centre and east of Lacadie. Its been a while for me so forgive me if I spelt the names wrong and the directions are not perfect. Lat tinme I was there was about 2 years ago. Aparently, still kicking a-- and they have a special sauce for the fries that is like nothing you ever tried.

JD81 07-17-2006 01:01 PM

Being from the west end closer to the 20 Im very very rarely up in that neck of the woods and seeing as though you were in St. Laurent it definately made it closer to home and therefore more known.

Anyway apart from my family being in Montreal I can honestly say that theres nothing drawing me back there and I really like TO, you probably feel the same way.

Shamblerock 07-17-2006 05:16 PM

Yes, that's true. Only the restaurants make me feel homesick. Looking forward to seeing you at our next meet.

JD81 07-18-2006 09:08 AM

Ya it will be cool to meet some other 8 owners/enthusiasts, is the meet this coming sunday still on?

Shamblerock 07-18-2006 12:50 PM

I beleive so. Neo?
