Cool

By no means impossible, this is the 2008 list of admissable models -

....and now it's a sticky.

There will be and should be nothing stopping you from getting used cars at a crazy discount. Goin tomorrow to pick up an 06 STi with 4500 miles on it. It was $27,500 ... US ... evern with the duty it's still a steal. Every automaker has a different set of rules .. but if you are thinking of doing get'r done soon.

**update** I got my car yesterday, flew down to New Jersey and drove it back. It is such a nice car, love driving it! The border was really easy and a joke really.

IMPORTANT!! THOSE THAT ARE THINKING ABOUT SHIPPING TO CANADA OR CLOSE TO DO NOT USE DAS (DEPENDABLE AUTO SHIPPERS!!!!! They kept changing my ETA and they had my car for almost a month and still never got to it's destination and I decided to say F**k them and went and got it from the depot in New Jersey. They never call you back, couldn't give me anything but a maybe, and they have a lot and a lot of negative feedback on the net (found this out to late). DO NOT use them!!!! It cost me the biggest headache ever and more money then needed. I am reversing my visa payment and will see what happens.

Question - does anyone know if you need a temp permit to drive your car once you are back in Canada or you don't have to get one cause you have up to 45 days to register it?

Thx!

Well in BC it is called a 10 Day Binders insurance which allows you to transport your car from the origin of purchase to your house. After all the forms and repairs are completed you go to your local insurance and get that bad boy running.

Are there any issues with importing an 8 with aftermarket mods? I'd like an 8 with a turbo. Can I buy one already done up and still import it? Or do I have to add the turbo afterwards?

What mods are passable, if any?

Having Performance mods won't prevent it from entering Canada.

For the RX-8 I believe the only modification required is day time running lights. Other than that you're good to go.

So basically if you're importing it yourself your cost is:

Cost of vehicle + 6.2% Duty + GST + Recall letter (free right now from mazda)

If it's not US made be prepared to tack another 6% cost into the car. Plus other import fees. Best deal is to import a BMW Z4.

Do you go to a dealer for the recall letter or directly to Mazda USA?

I was wondering the exact same thing. I just recently imported mine from the States (Houston, TX) and I need to get a recall letter as well.

I ended up paying almost $1300 in duty/taxes on mine. Still going to end up saving a ton though.

I went to a Dealer.......

I went to a dealer in the U.S for a recall clearance letter before I imported it and it wasn't even the dealer who sold me the car. They were very cooperative and had the letter ready for me within minutes.

How did you get yours to have daylight running lights? Is it easy to do or did you take it to a shop?

What transport shipping company is reliable for bringing our cars over the border?

If anyone has any positive or negative experiences with any shipping companies, I'd like to hear about it. I need to decide on one very quickly, and it would be nice to know who I'm dealing with, and what to expect. Thanx.

Re: DRL

Mazda dealer can do DRL but it will cost you. Canadian Tire can also do DRL and for less money but it ain't stock so you need to decide how much pain your wallet can afford and then take your pick.

There are websites out there that rate companies. What ever you do DO NOT USE DAS Dependable auto shippers They are anything but. DO NOT USE THEM!!!

As for DRL...just do the Fog light rewiring on this site, works awesome and only cost $.60

So I just did the fog light re-wire to set them as DRL's. Has anyone else other than Thumper done this method and passed inspections at CT?

And in the recall letter Mazda mentioned the that that car lacks the anchorage hardware for the the child restraints. Is it neccessary to have this hardware (Mazda says it's available at a local dealer) to pass the inspection or not?

GJ! easy and cheap eh!! When you go into CT, just make sure your fogs are switched to on, so if they really do care (my guy didn't really he was awesome!) they start the care and lights are on, turn the car off and they go off. That's all you need for DRLs. You will be fine. If for whatever reason you get an Ahole, then take it to another CT. I did mine in Ajax. The guy even said if I wanted to reverse it go ahead lol.

As for the anchorage thing. I ordered mine only like $16, but the guy again at CT didn't give a crap about it and just signed off on it so I canceled my order from mazda haha. Same as for the french stickers you need. Just take it in now (main thing is DRL) and if there are any problems they will tell you and it won't cost you any more money. The inspection is free thx to the gov't of Canada But you will have to do safety inspection and emissions

Enjoy the new ride! They are so sweet!! Can't wait for it to warm up and no more snow so I can actually drive mine

Cheers!

Did you get your letter? Just go to Mazda.com and there is a section there about recall letters. Fill out the doc. and fax it in. I got mine back the same day. Easy as that!
