Grand Bend Track Videos

Here are some videos I made from Grand Bend Raceway.

Technical track - 1:20.6

Modified track - 1:03.7

Alien track - 1:17.1

I suspect the technical layout time is half decent, but I don't really know. I suspect the other two are a bit slow. I know there is at least other RX-8 that has been to Grand Bend.

Here is one of my videos. I don't have footage of technical layout running cw but my time was 1:13.74

Link to results below, I'm running in GT3.

Here is onboard footage running the technical layout ccw and my best time was 1:14.42.

Your times aren't bad for stock but still a little ways to go. Judging by your video, tires will help a fair bit

Thanks for sharing your video, the link and the feedback. Judging by the times set by other cars competing at the same time you had a very good time. :)

I have a few additional questions for you Steve. :)

I'm guessing there's perhaps a 4 second difference between R compounds and my 300TW tires. Does that seem about right to you?

Other than gutted interior and tires, what else has been done to your car?

Anything stand out as something I could do differently?

I'm actually running on street tires as I run in a street tire class. They're Hankook RS3's in this video. The interior isn't overly gutted, in fact, the car weighed 2940lbs before I removed the carpet and headliner to make way for the roll bar to be welded in, and weighs 2943lbs after the roll bar install. Next year when I move up a class I will shed a substantial amount of weight. As for mods, at the time I was just running an intake, catless exhaust, Ohlins coilovers, and hawk ht-10 pads with 2pc slotted rotors.

As for advice, its hard to say as your camera is mounted outside the car. Your lines are good, but its nearly impossible to hear where you're back in the throttle, see your steering inputs, shift points, etc. Next season, try mounting the camera inside the car to watch yourself.

Based on the specs for your car it looks like I have a ways to go. There's probably 3+ seconds I cannot account for. :) Based on what I've seen other cars run I'm really surprised at how quick you are. I will take your advice and bring the camera into the car.

Snrub,

If I can make a suggestion about your driving, it seems like when you are coming off of the longer, fast straights, you tend to drift to the middle of the track before/under braking. This is making for a tighter turn and sometimes an early apex. If you keep the outside wheels pegged on the outside of the track under braking, you will be able to carry more speed through the corner.

Watch Steve's video...the car is as far to the outside as possible until the moment he needs to turn in
