Got my PCM flash and..

I must say the car feels a lot smoother and faster, better throttle response too. Went to Westowne mazda original owner over 20 years. Had an oil leak , appeared to be the oil pan gasket . Mind you my car has only 40k on it and driven in summer time only . Took it out when it was dry last week, cause my bumper to bumper warranty was ending. So got it done under warranty and even got to drive a mazda 3 sport lol.

Who ever needs to get this pcm upgrade done do it !!!

That update has been around for over 2 yrs and was included in a recall in the U.S.

So how can an owner tell ( other than taking the word of a technician at a Mazda dealership ) if his car has the latest PCM Flash ?

The Mazda N.A. has a record of the service done to your car. Especially the recalls performed. Any dealer can call this up and it is possible for them to print this out for you. On top of that, Mazda provides dealers with a diagnostic computer that gets used when you take the car in for service. This machine will tell the dealer when the ECU programming is out of date.

Apparently this new flash was only for cars that had engine lack of power , if the engine did not produce this or had no rough idle or lack of power no flash update was done. I got mine done for no reason, it just depends on the dealership and if you won't ask they will not do it :)

No. Everyone gets MSP-16 now. Its consolidated.

Typical dealership chain-yanking.

Well let's take this a little further, thanks for the link you posted, anyway when this issue with the " Flash " came up I went back to the dealership and asked about it and was told it only applied to American cars.
According to Mazda it applies to North American cars,,,,,,,,and last I looked,,,,,,,yes, I'm right, Canada is part of North America.
So now I shall look under the hood and on the drivers door jamb for the appropriate labels.

There was a Canadian recall that wasn't applied to U.S. cars (replacement of the oil lines due to corrosion). I wish we had that one. It cost me $1500. The dealer had my car for an engine change and wouldn't release it to me until the lines were changed. They didn't want me possibly damaging my engine. I should have called MNAO on that one. I no longer go to that dealer.
