Got a Good Deal on Tires (you can too)
I knew I was going to need new tires this year. I bought my car last summer with my rears are worn out and the crappy Dunlop Direza's up front. I wanted to replace them all.
I have been looking passively online for a couple of weeks now. I wanted a tire with decent tread life, great performance, and a cheap price. This had me looking at General UHP, Sumitomo HTRZ III and a few Kuhmo's. But then I came across this deal today on the tire rack (tirerack.com) and said screw it to long life tires, I want performance!. Bridestone Potenza RE-01R: Regularly Priced: $232.00 USD Clearance Price: $78.00 USD I am getting them all shipped, taxed, dutied, etc delivered to my door for $529.18 USD. This works out to roughly $675 CAD, or $168.75 ($149 before taxes). Are these the best tires on the road? No. However, show me another $78 USD tire that is better, or even a $149 CAD tire that is better. There are still some left. http://www.autobytel-japan.com/goods...tone/re01R.jpg http://earth.endless.ne.jp/users/sr2...arts/re01r.jpg Bridgestone Deal |

I paid CAD$800, including taxes, mounting and balancing last summer for some Falken FK-452 in 245/40/18 (225 would be cheaper). Factor the install at about $10/corner+tax: it cost me an extra $20 per tire for wider Falkens. Well worth it! |

I am assuming you are getting the stock 225/45/18.

I'm confused, are you saying you got the better deal, I got the better deal, or we both got good deals? Also, I thought about upping the wheel size. Although I like the look of the 245's better, I would rather keep the that little bit of extra unsprung weight off of my car. |
BFGoodrich GForce KDW. Almost as sticky as the Bridgestone RE01R but will last 3 times as long.

I could have gotten these for $352 shipped from Indiana to Michigan. So torn.... |

Read that they are really noisy though. I am going to get a set of Sumitomo HTR Z III. Offer great value and are a solid performer.

Yeah, that is what I was all ready to get before I found this deal.
Called Tirerack and the guy was saying that the Bridgestone RE01R was a better handler in dry but not as good in wet and will wear quite a bit faster. He said for daily use, you do give up quite a bit of traction in wet weather vs the sumitono, so that's why I am leaning heavily toward the Sumitono. I haven't pulled the trigger yet as I want to read through all of the reviews before I buy. |
I just bought 4 of these in 245/40R18...thanks for the tip! They were a little more pricy than the 225/45R18, but the look alone will be worth it.
