Fighting Traffic Tickets
 

Does anyone know any good legal services to assist in fighting traffic tickets?

I received two this morning for disobeying stop signs. The officer claimed I did not stop, but I did. So he followed me up the street to another intersection 200m away where he 'observed' me coming to a rolling stop again.

Both tickets are for $110 and will give me three demerit points each. I can't afford to pay $500 a month for insurance, so I need to at least have the points dropped. I don't see why he didn't stop me after the first 'infraction'. I'm obviously going to fight them both.

I've gotten a quote from ontariotraffictickets for $250 but I don't know if they have a good track record or If there's a better firm to go with.

POINTTS and XCOPPER are the two that have god track records. They'll charge you a lot more than that though... $250 for both tickets is an awesome deal.

Hmmm I may just request a trial date and attempt to get it thrown out myself.

I'll likely have 15 months to sit on it haha.

ALWAYS do the trial.

At the time when you request trial date (ie, 15days after the ticket date) go ask for translator if English is not your first language.

Then ask for disclosure 2 months before the trail, OR
ask for disclosure AT the trail date - since you are not law professional and do not have a legal representative, they can't blush you off by saying you don't follow the process.

Then, that means re-arrange for another court date.

On the 2nd court date, see if you can find dirt on the notes, if yes, go blast the cop with it; If not, request further details.

By the 3rd time if the cop still shows up, I think he earned your money...

I have been ticketed for quite a few times for the past decade, so far I have a 66% success rate of dropping it completely by using similiar approaches...

Thanks for the advice. I'll follow it the best I can. The cop kind of hinted that he wouldn't show up, and said he would have given me a warning but he'd been 'fair' and given the 5 others nabbed that day tickets and couldn't give me an exception.

How much could I expect my insurance to increase for these minor convicions? 30%?

FYI: Demerit points don't matter for insurance. It's the convictions. You can have all the points dropped but they would still affect your insurance.

I've only fought a traffic ticket once. I did not get a lawyer. The prosecutor called each defendant in for an individual meeting before the court actually started and offered deals. In your case, since it sounds like you'd be ok with one ticket but not both, I think you'll easily get at least that much offered to you in a plea bargain. You might even get a watered-down version of that one ticket. I'm not sure what they would give for a stop sign, but in my case, for example, a charge for running a red became running a yellow.

my friend ran a red light camera with my car, i got at 325 doller fine/ticket to my door. $325 No Demerit Points taken off. Does this go on your record? Many ppl are telling me it wont affect the insurance, but i dunno if you guys no any better. Sorry C_ls for posting this just thought it was on the same ticket topic.

Red light cameras do not go on your record because they can`t prove who was driving.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not as worried as I was last week when I received the tickets. I actually went back and took photos of the location. There's no way the cop could have seen anyone stop (or not) from where he was parked.

This one is where I stopped. The cop was parked down the street in the center of the image. Just past the driveway of the house. He couldn't have been parked any closer or I would have seen him and he would be obstructing vehicles attempting to turn right.

This ticket is getting thrown out. As for the second one, I shouldn't have even been given it since he had no reason to follow me up that far. I refuse to plead guilty even with a watered down sentence. I'd rather take the fine and the points after a trial since only convictions matter as you guys mentioned.

If you can prove that the first ticket was not given in good faith (which your pictures seem to do) you should be able to use it as precedent for getting the second ticket thrown out.
