Extended warranty- worth buying?

so my current 3 year warranty is expiring real soon and I'm deciding if I should get it extended. $2500 for up to 6 years /120km.

So far I have a body kit, upgraded suspension and exhaust, and there is already an extended warranty on the Engine. so is $2500 for the transmission and the other little things worth it? anyone else here got extended warranty?

I picked up the extended warranty when i bought the car, figured that i'm definately going to keep it so might as well be covered

Always worth buying if your keeping your car like I am... :)

What does it cover EXACTLY?? compare that with what it covers without. Post up and then decided.

"The basic warranty for the Mazda5 covers all parts found to be factory defective for 36 Months or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. Additional warranties cover Powertrain components for a period of 5 years or 100,000 km whichever comes first, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years and unlimited mileage and specific emission control components for up to 8 years or 128,000 km." And more....

It depends very much on the fine print and deductible.

Generally I do not think they are worth it unless you are very unlucky.

ok I am getting confused here and hopefully one of you can help me out. I spoke with my local dealer asking about the diff between my existing and the extended warranty, and he said it is exactly the same except I get a rental car if I need major repair.

So after reading the website... this is what I gathered.. please correct me if I'm understanding this wrong.

Right now my 2006 RX8 has 3 years/80km NEW VEHICLE comprehensive warranty and 5 years / 100KM powertrain warranty.

Power train covers: Engine (8yrs/160km), Transmission/Transaxle and Drivetrain

So NOW IF I get the $2500 6 year/120KM Mazda Added Protection (MAP) Plan..

I'm still getting 6years total on my powertrain, but now it includes Brake/clutch/aircondition, steering, and fuel control devices

I'm still getting the New vehicle coverage, but it wont cover stuff like headlight, sunvisor, center console(which already broke on me once or more), spark plugs, struts, etc...

hmm I'm on the fence

I don't know the exact terms but based on what they offered me...
It doesn't cover any of the normal wear and tear items like brake pads, rotors, clutch etc. It only covers things that break unexpectedly and only if you didn't cause it.
And you pay a deductible each time you're in the shop.
Sound worth it?

So in short (not much time to read) for $2500 you go from 80k - 120k same warranty as the 80k. correct?

1st of all if you are buying the Mazda Comprehensive new car warranty there is no deductible. It DOES NOT cover wear and tear items, such as brake pads, rotors, springs, shocks etc. What it does cover is things like A/C, cooling system, fuel system, power options (windows/doors etc), transmission, diffrentials, shafts, heater and A/C controls etc. Somebody.........maybe able to save you some money on it if you were to contact them.... From what I can see price wise you were quoted $2474.00 for a72 months or 160,000km warranty.

ps In my mind its well worth the money for what my opinion is worth!

Depends on what it covers. I've spent over $2500 is repairs that in all honesty should not have gone wrong.

~$1100 for the auto leveling headlight sensors
~$900 for the radio/dash display
~$200 for the DRL module and new bulbs
~$300 for an alternator replacement (this stuff goes wrong but it shouldn't have cost this much since it was a repaired alternator and not a new one)

01Racing 04-27-2009 03:38 PM

All but the auto headlight sensor should have been covered by extended warranty I believe.

Then I'd say get the warranty plan.
