Engine Rebuild in Alberta
Just wondering what are the best shops in the province that offer engine rebuilds? Prefferably around Edmonton but it doesn't matter all that much.

Try?
RX-7 Specialties 3813 17th Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta, Canada T3E 0C3 phone: 1-403-246-6980 website: rotaryengine.com | Rotary Engine Specialists | Mazda Performance | RX7 Specialties |
Why not try it yourself? I live in Spruce Grove, so I'm probably close by.

I've been considering that idea. The cars still driving now but it's just a matter of time. I have been experiencing the hot start issues for quite a while now and have changed everything plugs, wires , starter upgrade (cars an 04) and a new batter, the only thing i have yet fo do is ignition coils. No compression test has been done but i figure that it must be bad compression considering its still got the original motor with 130k on it. I am a student so right now I don't have the time to do it myself between school and my job but if it does last until the summer doing it myself might be the path I take. I live in Camrose.
|
If you are on the original coils at almost 100K miles you might want to pick up a set and try that ...lot cheaper than an engine rebuild.
The information you will get from a compression test is worth the approx $150 it will cost you to get it done |
Not to sure if the coils are original or not but I will change those out just to be sure. So the compression test would be worth it? The only CEL code my car runs is for the secondary air unit which the previous owner who put in the cold air intake removed . The dealership basically told me it wasn't worth putting a new one in.
|
If you're going for new coils, I HIGHLY recommend the BHR kit - One of, if not the best mod I have put into my car. Its a bit more expensive, being at like $600 or something with new plugs, but well worth the money.
And Camrose isn't too far, let me know if you need help with any of the stuff and we can arrange to meet possibly. Easier than going to a stealership and paying out the ass :P |
Hey all.. Uh.. first post on these forums. I've got an 04 with 131xxx kms on it, and I'm smack in the middle of the same thing - very difficult hot starts. Long story short, it's finally been diagnosed as having low compression, requiring an engine replacement. Anyway I lived in Calgary in 08, when I bought the car, and dealt with Adam, Mike and Simon (although I don't think Simon works there anymore) at RX7 specialties most of the year that I lived there. They seem to know their stuff very well.
Chances are pretty good if you've changed the coils, plugs, wires, etc, that you're running into the same thing. Mazda wants about 4600 bucks (here in Nova Scotia) tax in to buy and put in a new engine. Adam at RX7 Specialties ball-parked an engine rebuild at around 3600, and that would include stronger apex and (I believe) side seals. This was this past Friday. Anyway, I just wanted to give my opinion on RX7 Specialties. |
So you would recommend RX7 specialties? I've been reading up on the rx7 forum about them and people seem to have mixed reviews.
|
Well, think any business is going to end up with mixed reviews, and it probably doesn't help that Adam is a bit high strung, from what I remember. That being said, they treated me well, their pricing seemed fair, and they're definitely a wealth of information when it comes to the Wankle engine. At the very least, I'd say they are worth talking to.
|
I had a bunch of stuff done by the RX7 Specialties on my 04 and it runs like a charm now, they're knowledgeable and i trust them far more then any mazda dealership that's for sure. i'd recommend them for sure. they are usually quite busy tho so that could be the one downside, i fourtunatly had another car so i didn't mind waiting. That being said my car was done in half the time of the eta they gave me so that's always a bonus.

Anyway, I just wanted to give my opinion on RX7 Specialties. (Personally I'd order one of the cores from Mazmart with their upgraded water pump etc. before I bought a factory reman.) As for RX7 Specialties, a friend of mine had his porting done by them, and got a lot of his parts from them (and a few for me, actually) and had them shipped to Halifax so we could build the engine for his FD. The parts prices were fair, service was good, they were willing to share advice when he asked them. The quality of parts and porting were good. I'd have no reservations in doing business with them. Most people with negative things to say about them on RX7 club just don't like Adam personally. None of them seem to have issues with their work. |
SO once all these cars are up and running for the AB residents.... down for a meet in spring? ;)

Hey just curious if someone would be interested in rebuilding my 2004 rx8 for like 1000-1200 cash. I know there not too bad to do. I just live in an apartment and have no where to do it. located in red deer but can bring where ever

Don't know about Edmonton but the RX7 Specialties Shop in Calgary does good work, Lots of people don't like Adam down there but he does good work regardless. That's where i take my car. I don't know about cost or if there are cheaper places, some of the other guys can probably speak to that I'm sure. |

You could talk to Conroy from 4kruzn or something along those lines, his shop is just outside the city.

Mazda engines for the most part are ok, but I'd trust one of Adam's over a Mazda reman any day! Especially if he's local, you'd be smart to build a relationship with him. It'll pay off in the long run.
If anybody talks to him, tell him Ryan Scott said hi :D: |

Hi again. So when I put the new engine in I'm gonna have to do something about the catalytic converter. Can't afford a new one on top of the cost of the engine now. What if I just knocked out the honeycomb inside and put it back on?
|
I want to buy a BHR header for my 8, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with shops around Edmonton to do this kind of work. I don't want to take it to any old exhaust ship to get it done.

Rebuilding my engine?
I may need to rebuild my engine and I'm planning on doing it myself just wondering if there's anyone in the stony plain spruce grove area that's done this before so I have someone to ask if things start to get really confusing.
|
I wis I could help , I'm in Edmonton , But I only got knowledge on 7's engines
