Engine Problems

ok so yesterday, I went to go start my car and it was idleing very low, when i revved, it sounds low and deep (Like a subaru STI) and everything was shacking the exhaust, shifter, motor. I had the ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING. turned it off, let it cool off. disconnected battery, then tried 30 mins later. Same thing. I called rick, he said it would be ok to drive with the flashing light. so i did.

I drove 5 kms, then smoke started coming out of the engine, and my exhaust was burning hot to the point it was burning blue. I had to call for a flat bed, and got it home. When I got home i turned it on to put in the garage, the the engine light was now solid (no longer flashing)

When I got home i used my scan guage to check the coded. I had 2:

P0171- O2 sensor
P0301- Misfiring Issue

I have an appointed at mazda on thursday at 8am.

Anyone know if this is a serious issue? What am I looking at here? I can sleep, I so stressed with this issue, I do my oil changes and dont cheap out on gas, I do everything dealership asks me to change, I recently did the spark pluges, and even have a new cat. Did my cat back create this problem? Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks

What I mean is, you followed what the dealer asks you to do, but the engine is not behaving well.... let's hope it's nothing serious.......

The last time I saw a very clean inside of the exhaust with white powdered walls was after a track session...

DTC P0171 - System too lean

DTC P0301 - rotor misfire detected fire

Don't panic. Don't guess. Work your way through the diagnostic guides

Pull the plugs, take a picture and post. We can tell a lot from plug condition

Would agree with that. That said, neighbour (Railton...he was on here I think) had the Misfire error before his engine was replaced.

It's an '04...from what I've read, it's a matter of time. Thankfully we've got an 8 year warranty.

Ignition coil gone bad.
Fouled sparkplugs.
Cat clogged due to misfiring coil/sparkplugs.
Exhaust overheating due to clogged cat.
White exhaust pipe due to excessive exhaust temps.

Mike, don't panic, Dark and others have lead you in the right direction. Your going to your dealer tomorrow anyway but in the mean time, how many km's are on your wires and coils. Your cat was replaced just recently did you check your O2 sensor leads. Don't assume the worst it could be as simple as a fouled plug!

P.S. Also did you check for a exhaust leak like I said on the phone, must likely around the new cat installation.

Spend a $100 at the dealer when you take it in and have the compression checked. Make sure they write the numbers down on your service record then compare it to the chart.

Plugs could still be fouled. pull and post a pic as dark said or just wait for the dealer tomorrow.
What kind of mileage on the coils & ignition wires, and did you check your ignition wires are seated good.

Hope it is too man but basically they are just practicing mechanics on your car.
What dealer is this BTW?
I think it's time you took it elsewhere. The only thing is...where?
Coils can be changed by yourself as well. Why don;t you purchase some and install them yourself and see if that does it?
