Election Day.

I hope everyone voted!!

I voted for the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada.

tiggerlee 01-23-2006 08:08 PM

So is Martin packing his bags?

DarkBrew 01-23-2006 08:11 PM

If you do not vote then you give up your right to bitch about the govenment till the next election.
If you cannot bring yourself to support any of the choices then go to the polls and mark NONE on your ballot just to show that you were there.

Neo 01-23-2006 10:54 PM

I'm actually surprised the Conservatives won.... I knew my area was going to vote for Belinda... so I decided to mark all the candidates on my ballot!

Hopefully the Conservatives are less crooks than the Liberals were.... only time will tell...

Lates,

Nearly great election! Next time will be a majority, when Ontario learns that the Liberals have been lying about Harper's "hidden agenda" all these years. The Liberals lie, steal, and cheat about everything - yet you believe THEM when THEY tell you that Harper is scary?!! Even after the Liberal hidden agenda (siphon off money from public programs) is revealed? Ever thought the Liberals might have an ulterior motive in lying about the Conservatives intentions? In all fairness, I'm sure the Liberals did find the Conservatives scary, since they were scared the Conservatives were going to win and punt them from their cushy jobs and slush funds!

if the conservatives win a majority i might as well start saluting the American flag! :hahano:

All I have to say is harper better not screw up or have any scandals of his own.. If he plays fair and does well for Canada then I suspect the conservatives will be around for awhile. But if he steps out of line just once, we're going back to the liberals.

what a load of crap by an uninformed person...I’ve had enough of the liberal fear mongering. They even went so far as to call him a Nazi. I have two problems with that.
1) it is a gross exaggeration which gives a criminal over tone
2) it de-emphasizes what the Nazi's did

It's just another example of how the Liberal would do ANYTHING to keep in power.

Agent008 01-24-2006 09:40 AM

The Liberals got what they deserved.. They needed a good kick in that ass for being careless with my money. Martin lost my confidence when he went back on years of good work with the budget by giving in to the commie NDP and burned an extra 4.x billion for no good reason.

Here's hopping the Conservatives will keep away from the far right and continue to be in line with the majority of Canadians.

Bottom line, The Conservatives have a good chance to show Canada that they needn't fear the Conservatives. This will mean that we'll have two strong parties in Canada and people might start to believe in the democratic process again.

That's rich. The Liberals steal and lie for 13 years but if the conservatives screw up once you'll go back to that. What do mean by screw up....by not pandering to Toronto's every whim?

It may sound like I'm a card carrying Conservative but that's not the case. I am just more anti-liberal than anything else. I won’t tolerate a corrupt government like we've had for the last 13 years. Talk about a hidden agenda. Just compare what promises they gave us at each election compared to what they actually did.

There hasn’t been a true free vote on any issue ion those 13 years.

rotten42 01-24-2006 09:44 AM

One other thing....Would you vote for a party that wanted to do any with the "not withstanding clause" Do people realize the perils of this?

khtm 01-24-2006 10:12 AM

I'm glad the liberals are out, and ever more glad that the tories only have a NARROW minority.

Go Canada.

I was trying to say any party that would be elected in this election can not have any type of scandal, liberal or conservative.. I suspect Canada is at wits end with scandals and will not tolerate any party messing around.

My boss was wandering around so I had to make the first statement quick! :)

But like I said, if they don't screw around I have a feeling they'll be a power for awhile..

And what is up with all you guys out west :) You're always hating on Toronto, even when I was in Calgary on business I was getting slack for being from Toronto .. We're all one big happy family remember? :)

Yeah, because we canucks can have a healthy discussion without resorting to name calling and flinging feces at each other.

I probably never will because everytime I do ask, I usually get the same response that you have provided :)

Here is an odd metric, conservatives didn't win a single seat in the 3 biggest cities, Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto.. I didn't expect that one to happen.

The west hates ontario because we get the most attention being the largest province. And some other reasons, but I don't really know what they are. Probably money issues, I'm sure the feds take lots of money out of the western provinces, esp alberta, and spend it out east, but we don't get any of it. I don't know. I suppose they don't feel what's good for the goose (ontario) is good for the gander (west), and they're right.

MrJynx 01-24-2006 04:06 PM

Yea I just asked around my office and that's exactly what they said.. Liberals prefer to push the money to the federal level and *supposedly* distribute it evenly across the provinces. But i'm sure that isn't the case..

moRotorMotor 01-24-2006 04:13 PM

Liberals have long been a strong favorite until a few years ago, leading up to their defeat to the Conservatives, here in Newfoundland. They didn't do crap for us Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Spending was out of control. Everytime the CUPE and NAPE workers went on strike, the Liberals would cave in to their demands for wage increase, better benefits, etc. The oil from Hibernia is as if it wasn't ours. The money from the oil just gets pumped directly back to the federal government. I believe we recieve between 1-5 cents for every barrel which is crazy.

Now with Danny Williams (a Conservative) as premiere, our spending is under control and our debt is slowly but surely decreasing. He fought tooth and nail to get more money from Hibernia back into Newfoundland and Labrador where it belongs. I believe he will get us back on track with time.

I strongly hope this is the case on the federal level as well. I didn't vote because I did not feel both Liberals nor Conservatives, deserved my vote. The scandal took any trust I had in the Liberals and the thought of having a Bush-friendly prime minister didn't sit well with me either. I know you guys are going to say that since I didn't vote, I have no right to voice my opinion, but voting for the NDP wasn't going to change anything.

BlueEyes 01-24-2006 04:21 PM

I'd be interested to see how much money goes into each province vs. how much they generate. I know ontario gives out more than they get, I'm sure Alberta is the same, maybe a couple others.

khtm 01-24-2006 04:23 PM

<huge story>

I don't *hate* Ontarioans, per say, but of all the Canadians I've socialized with, I found them to be the most uptight and image-conscience. I know this is a huge generalization, but that's just my observation. Whenever I go to Toronto, I've never really been too impressed. The clubs are full of wannabe gangsters and stuck up chicks. The weather aint very nice, it's smoggy, hard to get around (traffic). I worry about being shot. I do like Ottawa though. Sort of reminds me of a big Victoria.

For example, in university, whenever a school out West would host a conference, there'd be KEGS. In Ontario, there'd be WINE AND CHEESE. And all the Ontario students would be dressed up wearing ties and shit and would be afraid to join in on drinking games.

I remember once the president of the University of Waterloo engineering student society didn't know what a shotgun was. He was all like "why are you piercing that can!?" The redneck in me wanted to slap some sense into him.

I love partying with people in the maritimes (even been screeched in?), people in Quebec (holy shit they go hard), and people in the prairies and BC...Ontario not so much.

Kinda sad, especially when 1 in 7 Canadians live in frickin' Toronto!

</huge story>

BlueEyes 01-24-2006 04:25 PM

Waterloo students are ridiculous.
