DRL bulbs?

What kind/brand of bulbs are you guys using for your DRL? I'd like to replace the OEM bulbs with something that produces a whiter colour (preferrably 5000k - 6000k). I bought some cheap 65W H9 bulbs from ebay and they're a little whiter, but still yellowish, and the light output is a bit lower than stock.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Well, the cheap halogen bulbs I got on ebay last year finally blew. A friend gave me a pair of H9/H11 LED projector bulbs and I'd like to use them as my DRL. However, when I installed them, they wouldn't turn on. I tried using those load resistors, but that didn't work either.

I know using LEDs as DRL will disable my high beams, but I don't use them at all. I think the last time I used high beams was back in the 2001 when I drove out to Edmonton and Calgary.

Anyway, has anyone successfully gotten LEDs to work as their DRL on a Canadian RX8? Any help, or info would be appreciated. TIA.

The stock HIDs are 4300K
The higher halogen color temperature you select the lower your light output goes... just how it works.
I'm using 4350K Halogens for H9 and H11

I'm interested in LED headlights.
The way Mazda wired the DRLs the LEDs would have to have fairly low forward voltage drop to function at all as DRLs.
The DRL module would have to be modified to work with your LEDs to ensure enough voltage to turn on the diodes.

My home lighting uses 12V LEDs with digital dimmers (PWM); An automotive version of those dimmers should work.

Yeah, I changed my HIDs to 5000k and the H9 halogens I got on ebay were supposedly 5000k as well, but when used as DRLs, with only half the wattage going to them, they still had a yellowish tint.

I'm not confident enough to modify the DRL module. I'm not even sure what parts I would need to attempt it. Anyway, for LED headlights, v-leds has the V3 Triton. A little pricey but they seem to be pretty bright.

LEDs seem to be the only option for pure white DRLs. Searched extensively but couldn't find anything on a Canadian RX8 having successfully made it work (in the stock location).
