CAI shop in Quebec?
Hi everybody,
I'm currently searching a shop in Quebec that have some CAI if anybody know a shop, I wanna know :). Also, what is your preference between - AEM - K&N - Mazdaspeed I know that is not a big diffrent for the sound but if one model is developping more power than other one or it's all the same. Thank you |

ok and i guess that aem is cost less
|
if you plan to drive the car all year round, I do not recommend the AEM or MS CAI.
|
racing beat with the duct is a good choice
|
oki good to know and i'm not planing to use my rx8 all years, just for summer time
|
but how is't better RB duct cost more for what ? same hp or more, and for the noise? can't find a video with it

The K&N does produce the [relative] most Hp of the three, but at a considerable noise volume.
The MS and AEM are essentially the same "pipe and cone", with the AEM less expensive. The Racing Beat box/duct is a nice alternative to consider as well. |
yeah ok, but it will cost me more than 500$ just for a air flow system. I'll stay with my three first choice. then k&n is better than aem and MS?

HP all CAI's are pretty damn close in any kind of HP gain, which is little to none. From personal experience I had the MS CAI, swapped it for PRM intake and love it, more aggressive sound, good throttle response and cheaper than the other one's mentioned here . Made by a Canadian boy as well. AS for RB...the most expensive setup out there, for the same HP gain pretty well and it's much quieter. Kinda depends what you are going for...sound, look, throttle response, pretty well all they do. |
K&N does facilitate a few more horses than MS/AEM, but again at the cost of considerable noise/drone. So, 'better' is a very subjective term when it comes to intakes.

If it's non-winter driven, the MS/AEM CAI is really good in my opinion. It's quite loud when you gun it.... and I feel that it's not as restrictive for airflow at high RPM operation (above 6k). You lose a little down low though...

How does MS CAI impact if driving all year long or during winter?
I have the MS CAI and drive all year long and dont notice any difference in the winter. Took a little getting used to the intake... now i love it. |
it sucks up water, then gets caked in ice.

thx. |
even a car wash in the summer can be a bad idea

^ +1 Yup been there done that...NO more thanks and love living worry free :)

Yes, your worst nightmare in winter is during those days when it's hovering around 0 C, and you have wet-snow precipitation.
If its your daily driver, you essentially have two main concerns.. Morning rush hour, and afternoon rush hour. Here is a scenario that happened to me: afternoon rush hour.... wet snow... drove home okay, cause outside temps were alright... park the car indoors overnight. next morning rush hour... the wet snow turns into water, soaks through the CAI filter from the warmer temps of an indoor garage. The morning temperatures are almost always cooler than daytime... around -7 C. -7 C + water soaked CAI filter = frozen filter as soon as speeds pick up when you drive and the windchill factor becomes important. Frozen filter > no air into engine bay > stalled on the 401 westbound centre lane!!! Stalling on the 401 in rush hour > a huge backlog of traffic jammed > citynews traffic cameras > embarassment!!! |
ok guys I ordered it (CAI AEM) from the Docteur du par brise. it is 100$ more than on the net but he will do the installation for me free.
Also, i'll not use my rx-8 for winter, I love to much my rx8 for that. |
You have made an EXCELLENT CHOICE for a non-winter driven RX8 :)
