Brake issue. Advice needed!
 

Hey guys, I'd really appreciate some help because I have nowhere else to turn.

The situation: 6 months ago, a guy cut me off and I hit a curb at 40km/h and my brakes were fully depressed, but my RR wheel absorbed most of the impact. I had to get a new rim, new suspension parts, replaced the rotors and the pads.

The problem: A month after the repairs have been completed, I started hearing this awful clanging noise, like metal on metal scraping, happening at regular intervals (eg. krghh...krghh...krghh). The noise appears only when the brakes get warmed up, sometimes after 20 min drive.

What I have done so far: Firstly, I went to Mazda and they did the inspection and could not locate the problem. After, I went to other car shops and mechanics test-drove the car and inspected the brakes but they could not figure out what is making that noise. They told me that the rotor and the brake calliper are in great condition, and one mechanic said that the problem might be because of the way the pad frictions with the rotor. I checked out the forum in the Series II brakes, suspension, etc. threads and could not relate with my issue. I have performed hard braking, light braking, the noise was still there.

What I think might solve the issue: Get an aftermarket brake calliper, pads, lines and replace the oem ones. I do not know what else to do.

So, any suggestions would be helpful..

try checking between the rotor and the rotor dust plate sometimes rust or some debris gets in between and cause noise also if you can see if theres any build up on the brake pad grooves . hold off from buying anything till at least those are checked

Its hard to say without actually hearing the noise. If you suspect the pads are making noise and you are handy (can change them yourself) buy a cheap set of throw-away pads from local parts store and put them in for a couple days to see if the noise changes or goes away. I think Advance Auto Parts has pads starting at $15.

Sounds like they've been off and on a few times: I'd be pulling them off, careful inspection, clean them well as pointed out above, and then put them back on and ensure that they're torqued properly. All it takes is one bolt a bit loose to make your system make a lot of noise.

Come out to the meet this Sunday...I'm sure some of the guys could give you a better prognosis.

Check for a bent rear hub..............Or the rear dust cover is just making slight contact with the rotor as it turns

Hello...so I'm trying to figure out what my clanging is and found this thread. Seeking advice for a novice.you may get a chuckle reading this because I am a driver not a mechanic...read on
Six months ago I had all brakes,rotors,calipers,pads replaced, all rx8parts. Then I heard a clanging noise driving over a speed bump when i had the window open. Now I dont have an e brake.No I don't park on hills.
Is the e brake cable attached to rear calipers (I did some homework) and was this something that the mechanic (pepboys) should have re adjusted after the work or during an inspection?
What to do? (Chuckle:my son will place his go pro cam underneath the vehicle for an inspection. Wonders never cease)

I had exactly the same ptoblem when i purchased my '05 GT...

The dealer replaced the rotor, the caliper and the caliper bracket (to the tune of almost $1K... Thankfully all covered under warranty) without solving the issue, only to discover a bend caliper slider pin (a $12 MSRP part).

Before going the route of replacing a lot of expensive parts, replace both the slider pins... they are part # FE15-266-95 (listed as "PIN, GUIDE").
