Anyone have warranty problems because......

You changed fluids yourself, or you went somwhere else other than the dealer to do the work?
Wouldn't that be illegal?
I phoned a local transmission shop to have them put synthetic in my tranny and diff.
He asked what car it was. He said Mazda will void my warranty if they did the work, and used Mazda fluids. He said they test for certain ingredients in the oils that are exclusive to Mazda.
He also stated that synthetic fluids will kill any tranny because they are too slippery.
It sounded kinda bs to me.
But why would he not have just said sure bring your car in. He talked me out of giving him some business. Why would he do that?

It was BS. Mazda specifies in the owners manual the technical specs for the fluids you must use in the different components. As long as the fluids you select meet those requirements, you are warranty compatible. If you do the changes yourself, keep the receipts as proof you purchased the stuff (and when), those are acceptable for warranty maintenance purposes.

I put Redline MT90 in the transmission, and Redline 75W90 in the diff. They meet all Mazda's requirements for trans and diff fluids, and are fully warranty compatible.

Gordon

In addition to what Gord96BRG said, Mazda put those same products in for me!

I agree totally, but why would he say not to use synthetic in a tranny?
This was a shop that did nothing except tranny's.
Surely, Amsoil, Redline, and Royal purple would be out of business if their products ruined cars.
He said he would gladly service my car when it is off warranty but he still would not put synthetic in a tranny.
He claimed to have done work to a VW vehicle. The owner was later declined warranty because she had it serviced at a non vw shop. She then tried to come after the tranny shop for damages. That is why they dont bother with cars under warranty.
What would posses him to say this nonsense?
Disgruntled employee maybe on his last shift?

I forgot to mention this guy also said that having your oil changed at a Jiffy lube will void the warranty also.
This is absurd.
