Anyone else here from Winnipeg?

Hey just seeing if there are any other 8 owners from Winnipeg on here. I was at the heights crew meet last weekend hoping to see some rotary and I turned out to be the only rx8, there were a couple FB rx7's but that was it.

dexter2239 05-17-2009 12:38 AM

just got my 8 a lil less than a week ago. LUVN it!!! Treating the pot holes like a slalom course....hahaha

garrett755 05-17-2009 11:11 AM

well welcome to the club then, its definetly a fun car to own! at least the roads are better than they were a couple weeks ago, but ya you still gotta be careful and pay attention. what part of the city do you live in?

dexter2239 05-17-2009 10:57 PM

Hey, thanks. Well some of the holes are gone but I spent all day claying the tar off...hahaha, Damn tar/gravel spittin machine! The lesser of 2 evils I guess. I'm in River Heights. Whats this meet that you went to? The salesman at Destination was tryin to get me to get a hold of some Mazda club here in the city.

garrett755 05-18-2009 11:43 AM

Ya theres the manitoba mazda club, they're having a meet this sunday the 24th at the assinoboine park zoo
http://forum.manitobamazdaclub.com/i...ic,1312.0.html
I've never been to any of there stuff but I might go check it out if i'm not busy. Then theres the heights crew meets every sunday that are all organized on the winnipeg heights forum
http://www.winnipegheights.com/forum...play.php?f=208
I went to their meet last sunday and it was pretty good, lots of variety of cars and the meets seem to get bigger every weekend, last night they even had a BBQ set up and were selling food. They're actually having another meet tonight cause of the long weekend but it probably wont be as big cause they just had one last night and the weathers not looking so good. And no wonder you have pothole problems, River Heights has to have to worst streets in the city, my girlfriend lives there so I've driven around there quite a bit and you really have to pay attention and not go too fast.

I'm in Winnipeg, living in St. James. I've only had my 8 for a few weeks, but I used to own a '88 RX-7 years ago.

umforder 05-23-2009 05:37 PM

Just added recent pics from the detailing I did over the long weekend.

Also in St.James. Bought a 2008 Anniversary Edition last year from Destination.

I am the founding member of the Manitoba Mazda Club

The club has grown over the years, most original members did not show at the meet this past weekend. Alexxx, on the site organized this past meet with a plan to get several members to travel down to Gas Performance for their compact car meet.

I will attempt to organize a summer Mazda meet, most likely sponsored by one or more of our city's dealers.

Keep your eye on www.manitobamazdaclub.com for details.

I called around just the other day. I believe piston ring auto services is the cheapest.
Napa autoparts was $5 or $6 more per plug.
and partsource didnt have them in stock.

However. piston ring was still $48 each for trailing and $52 each for leading. (roughly. I cant remember exactly)

and online you can find them for $20 lol... So. I decided I'd wait a week or two to save a $100

umforder 07-08-2009 06:42 PM

I bought all 4 plugs from Sparkplugs.com for $122.80 all in CDN. I also got the 4 coils and wires for $239.92 from www.onlinemazdaparts.com ie Montgomery Mazda in N. Carolina. Destination Mazda had quoted me $105 per coil, so I easily saved more than half. Took a couple weeks to get everything.

Make sure to ship USPS as you're less likely to get dinged with any duty.

garrett755 07-08-2009 07:11 PM

ya thats what I found when I called around, Speed Factor on pembina got them for me for 30 each and they'll be here much sooner than if i order from an american site and only really cost like 15 or 20 more than if i did.

AmdBoy 07-08-2009 09:09 PM

St. Vital here. I think my work can get the plus for 36 and 40 each. but I can't remember. I will check tomorrow.

dexter2239 07-09-2009 10:01 PM

if you could, let me know when you change them if you notice any discernable difference in start, idle, or general performance. I'm a ways off from having to change mine per mileage but if its worth changing them earlier i'm all for it.....

Also if there's anyone on here from Destination Mazda's service dept., big kudos for sliding me in today for tire repairs, much appreciated....damn city constuction!!!

garrett755 07-12-2009 10:06 PM

ya i'll let you know the outcome, I'm also putting on a new upgraded starter cause the ones they put in the 04's suck, I think that may be what started all of my problems

umforder 07-13-2009 08:37 AM

I may end up doing the same if I instal the plugs and it doesn't start a lot better. I should have my car back today after some body work is being done, including a factory spoiler that I bought from a user on this site.

derek54 07-13-2009 10:13 PM

I dont know if any of you guys know of this. but there are auto x races done through wscc (winnipeg sports car club) about 6 or 7 times a month.
I've been a several times and its unreal how much fun it is. I've seen a few other 8's out there. It would be nice to see more.
Heres a link to the calendar http://www.dlbracing.com/default.aspx?view=1
and heres a link to the wscc website http://new.wscc.mb.ca/

anyone can sign up. and it's only $25 for the day to race.

garrett755 07-14-2009 09:30 AM

one of my neighbours goes to the auto x events a lot and has been trying to get me out, maybe later this summer when my car is back in working order. I got the plugs today from speed factor and will be installing them this weekend or early next week and see how much of a difference they make. If anyone else is looking for plugs speed factor on pembina has another set for around $135 after tax which is the best price around unless you order from an american site.

That seems like a reasonable markup considering the prices elsewhere.

garrett755 07-14-2009 12:17 PM

sparkplugs.com sells them for around $20 each so once you pay the exchange rate and the shipping your getting pretty close to $29.95 plus tax at speed factor so $120 plus tax for the set is pretty darn good. the cheapest place in the city is piston ring at like $50 each or something and the dealer charges even more than that.

If you ordered more than one set, the cost would go down proportionally as shipping is a flat cost. $122.80 was the charge on my VISA for the 4 plugs with the exchange rate costs. I found a few sites that were cheaper in the US, like Amazon.com, but they do not ship auto parts to Canada. The difference between Amazon and Sparkplugs.com was only a few dollars.

Derek54, is this the sites where they set up some pylons, or the road racing in Gimli that you attend?
