Anti theft: THE CLUB

Just want a show of hands, who here on this forum uses these steering wheel lock mechanisms around the GTA area?

For our car, if they want to steal it, I've been told you need a tow truck. Or a small team of experts and a LOT of time.

Break ins though.... I hear (This is actually true) in south Africa, there is a flamethrower underneath the drivers side door. It runs on gas, and a big fuel pump.

I'd pay for that. Even the video... hahaha

I agree that if a thief is determined enough, they can steal it but you may as well make it as difficult as possible for them. If anything, it's a deterrent that will make them reconsider and decide to move on to an "easier" car.

I have another trick that you can use that will make the car even more unappealing to steal. I did this accidentally to myself but I locked the steering wheel while the key was out. When I came back to start the car, the key would not turn. For most cars, you have to jiggle the wheel left and right before the key would turn --> with our 8's, it takes a little more vigorous wheel jiggling. I got scared for a few minutes seeing as that I couldn't get the wheel unlocked but eventually it came to. So if you are really paranoid, you can club it, lock the steering wheel by hand and rely on the immobilizer.

i don't think you have to turn the steering wheel to lock it into place ahead of time... If they try to steal your car and they need to turn the steering wheel, without the key, the steering wheel should lock in once they turn a little bit. So once they make their first turn, they'll be locked in.

Of course there probably are ways to get around the steering wheel lock... But there are also ways around the Club as well.

I afree with bluefrenzy. The Club will not stop a determined thief nor will any alarm or immolizer. It just slows them down if even. What the Club does is to reduce the potential of would-be thieves.... those opportunistic ones to move on to that Accord or 350z up ahead.

I suppose it would be a deterrent, just like the little blinking LEDs for alarms. Personally if I thought someone was going to try and steal my car by driving it away, I'd just pop the hood and pull the relay for the PCM. Good luck starting the car w/out it.

^^If the 8 was a target, and that was what people were doing to prevent theft, they'd just bring their own relay.

Anyway, the club is a nussance, nothing more. It's easy to remove or work around, but takes a couple minutes of their time. Time in which someone could see them.

but i have to say, rx8 is really easy to break into......they dont even need to break the window. so, owners, be careful about this, they can just got into your car within 1 sec. comparing with stealing the car, better just be worried about everything in the car;

Club takes about 3 sec to remove for a Pro....but will deter the idiots that don't know what they are doing.

It is almost impossible to steal the car without the key...but they make a huge mess trying.

A pro will just use a tow truck .....but they don't really have a reason to steal them....if they are looking for an easy ride...it's not. And there isn't really a big market for the parts.

They would much rather steal something that they can sell easily...Hondas Toyota's and exotics are much easier to part out
