Another problem, HELP.....

OK,

So today on our school break, me and my friend went out for lunch. I was in my car, and he was in his S2K. We raced. I reached about 1km distance, my check engine came on flashing. So I was like "FUCK" so i made a u turn to head back to school. It flashed for like 5-10 seconds, then it shut off. So im confused... "allaboutmoney" said the same thing happened to him when he ripped it. I got back to school shut it off, left for 30 mins, ans when to turn on the car, and it was still fine...

has anyone had this happen to them?? Is this a sign that my engine is gonna die?

Thanks guys..

It's a stupidity error...it comes on when you do stupid things in this car...

Mazda_RX804 09-23-2010 02:56 PM

is it really? lol its the first time ive ever seen it when i tried rippin it. its rare that i do it. And i wanted to see how it was with all new coils and spark plugs.

9krpmrx8 09-23-2010 02:58 PM

It's a misfire. BHR KIT

Mazda_RX804 09-23-2010 03:07 PM

Another misfire with New Coils and New Spark plugs?

DarkBrew 09-23-2010 03:13 PM

Plug Wires?
Mixed up leading and trailing?
Plug wires not snapped on all the way?
Shaft position sensor?

Mazda_RX804 09-23-2010 03:18 PM

Cant be the spark plugs cause ive had them for 6 months, and i havent had any issues... As for checking code, if the light when on, then off, can you still see it with an OBD reader?

Mazda_RX804 09-24-2010 12:13 AM

On the way home it happened again. Flashes for a bit then shuts off. Wasn't redlining. Just pushing it to 7000rpm each gear. Obd reader won't tell me nothing cause the light is off. Would the dealer be able to diagnose the problem?? Code history or something??

You sir are having a misfire issue. One of your coils has gone bad.
Yes factory coils are not that good.

^^^^ +1

My experience and understanding from others is the RX8 doesn't really recognize misfires correctly.
Its likely a Eccentric Shaft Sensor position reading error.
The ESS is very prone to getting dirty and easy to clean. While you're in there digging around unplug the sensor remove the one nut holding it in and clean it off.
Easy peazy

i had this problem i thought the car is being stupid, but misfiring eh mmm.. never thought about that i changed my coils, spark plugs, and wire set. I got to check that out .

Word to the wise or maybe not so wise: Street racing is not condoned on this site. Its in your best interest to watch what you say and how you word things. The admins have banned members for talking about instances of street racing.

This happens all the time, to many RX-8..... a misfire..... and especially if you try to rip the engine when you just start the car (cold start), if you redline gear 1 or gear 2, will have that Check Engine Light flash sometime.....

9krpmrx8 09-24-2010 10:14 AM

Doesn't happen to mine :)

Mazda_RX804 09-24-2010 11:12 AM

i wasnt ripping it last night just shifting over 5000rpm, i gota get someone to hold my obd reader while i drive it, and check the issue.

9krpmrx8 09-24-2010 11:18 AM

Sounds to me like your dealer just replaced parts without doing a proper diagnosis.

Mazda_RX804 09-24-2010 01:09 PM

im gonna go home, hop in the car, take it for a book, and check the code i get while driving. Cause I know dealer wont bother to check.

Wow....get ready to say bye-bye to your engine! :sadwavey:

So much fail in so little space.

Mazurfer 09-24-2010 01:15 PM

OEM coils can go bad fairly quickly.
Hell...........some have even failed right out of the box.

Little doubt that it's gonna be a misfire code, so plug(s), coil(s), or wire(s).

^ He just had all that done at his favorite dealer (except plugs I think).

schnipster 09-24-2010 01:33 PM

Yeah, I know guys. Some seem to get 90k and some seem to get <10k.

Think we've worked out the unofficial average to be about 35k...so take it for what it's worth.

Mazda_RX804 09-25-2010 09:06 AM

so its the same code again, and this time it flashed for 5-10 seconds, then stayed on solid. P0302 again. I think its time for me to get rid of the car, i read other threads and it seems like when you get this your car is fucked. (-_-)

REV-illusions 09-25-2010 09:15 AM

please do.

If you've done all the plugs and coils I'd double check to make sure the wire's are all firmly attached... I was drivin' around with a trailing disconnected for awhile 'cause of that.
