Almost DEAD on the QEW

This could be a continuation of my last thread "Electrical Problem?" however this time it was WAY worse.

Driving in the fast lane on the QEW just before Erin Mills and all of a sudden the F%#king Corolla in front of me slams on the brakes, naturally i do the same, only when i get off the brakes, put her back in gear and try to take off i have NO POWER. She wont go above 3k rpm and the check engine light is flashing.

I manage to make it over to the shoulder without killing myself, shut the car down, and wait a few minutes before i start her back up.

Now the check engine light stays on but at least i can get it past 3000rpm. I limp off the highway, thankfully i was right at the off ramp and now i'm taking the car in to Oakville Mazda tonight so they can figure out what the *#^@ is going on with it.

ARGH

Sounds like it's gone into limp mode for some reason. Apparently there's a setting in the car somewhere when something goes dramaically wrong that it limits your RPM to 3k so you can get your car to a safe place without distroying the car.

Sorry to hear you're having all these problems dude.

on the topic of your problem, its only after any sort of really hard braking that you are having an issue right? during these hard braking situations, has your ABS been working? im wondering if you have a couple tires drastically low and your ABS is freaking out with the different sizes and putting you in limp mode. thats a long shot, and im not sure if thats how the computer deals with that but i do remember you mentioning something about a nail in your tire.

Tires are all fully inflated, and as for the ABS I've been on the brakes hard, but with the tires i have it would need a lot more than that to lose traction. In other words the ABS hasen't gonn off lately.

I have no clue whats causing this, hopefully Oakville Mazda can figure it out, otherwise Al will be getting a call for some help!

How did you brake? The part where you say you put it back in gear interests me.

Clutch in, brakes on took it out of gear. When the idiot Corolla in front of me started speeding up again got off the brakes, clutch in, and put her in 3rd (was still doing about 60km/h) and got absolutely nothing from the engine beyond 3k rpm, and even below that it was rough

Nope no CAI on my car. I have an HKS intake installed. It sits in the stock position inside the engine bay.

You didn't happen to notice if it stalled did you? Obviously it shouldn't when in neutral but it may have died and you bumped it back to life when you put it in third? Possibly causing limp mode. Just an idea.

MS cai does not have any issues in dry weather conditions in any temperature....

It's only problematic around the 0C mark and it is precipitating.

that is so crazy that that could cause all that havock. good to know and glad she's all sorted out now. could have been caused by vibration...you know how bad these engines vibrate at ilde. I've seen a few that have rattled the rear brake or signal light bulbs loose enough to fall right out of the socket and it in the bottom of the light housing. on a all three occassions that i've witnessed that (on different cars) the bulb snapped back in perfect so as best as i can figure the bulb just rattled loose.
