ALASKA, will my RX8 do well in the snow and ice?

My husband wont drive his 2007 b-day gift (a 2004 RX8) on dirt roads or in snow/ ice. Now we live in Alaska and I want my Xterra back! He uses MY Xterra and makes me drive the RX8.
I think I need to sell the RX8.
But if you can convince me that it will do well in the snow and ice here in Alaska then I might be able to keep it.

If I get snow tires for it will it be enough? Do I need studded tires? DO you drive yours in the winter time? I've seen a lot of RX8's here but the snow's all gone now.

Help! I don't want to sell it, but I on't want to drive it!

I think we do have MODS here living in EXTREME NORTH (like showing us in car "-35C" temp pics cold)...

For Montreal, Rx8 with snow tires are fine...its the clearance that may cause problems

I drove mine last winter without issue. You NEED winter tires to even concider it. other than that, just make sure shes nice and warm before you shut it down and if the snow is deep, you will get beached (which is the case with most lowish cars) so dont even try it.

I can attest to this!

Winter tires are a MUST! And yes, RX8 are a joy to drive in the winter. :)

With snow tires it is a great fun car in the winter... but as said before, clearance an issue.

All that being said, Alaska is WAY further north than all of us, and they get tons more snow!!!!

All i can say is get a good set of snow tires and you should be fine as long as there is less than about 3 to 4" of snow. After that you're just going to be plowing the roads!

Yes, clearance is the issue. In Chicago, I can go anywhere I want with certain brands of all-season tires. When I was in Michigan, I could go through the snow until it got too deep. I had to dig the car out.

If I lived in Alaska I wouldn't have an 8. There are a few months tho that it has some good temps so use it for that and you are fine, or sell it.

So Obama has sold Alaska to Canada to fund US' bail out problems?

ZmFnZm 05-07-2009 09:25 PM

He offered, but we declined.... apparently the deal came with Sarah Palin!!! Lol... jk

I would not have an 8 living in Alaska.

Hell I live in Ottawa and I park the 8 for winter.

I would, however, have an STI :)

For our friends down North, eh!

Sarah Palin? Alaska? Snow? what month is it? where am I?
Get rid of the 8, or maybe get it lower oh I mean raise it and maybe some monster truck tires as well, just kidding. I lived in Winnipeg for a winter many moons ago, would not even think of driving an 8 there in the winter. Even the best snow tire can't deal with condition up there.
Is the 8 worth keeping for a couple of months a year, I'm sure you could sell it to someone in B.C. down there in Canada. Just a thought IMO lol

Great for a summer car, beautiful scenic roads and a great state. Where were you banish from?
