After 11 Great Years ...

Sadly, it's time for me and the RX-8 to part ways.

Engine needs a replacement and I'm just not willing to put the money into it at 225,000kms. I already had the current rebuilt at 180,000kms, about 2 years ago. Disappointed that I didn't get more out of the rebuild.

The car is a 2004 GT Velocity Red and has a bit of rust on the brake light on the trunk and on the rear wheel wells (even though it was Krowned every year). Other than that the car is in good shape. Will likely need a new clutch at some point in the not too distant future.

My question to the forum. What do you think is the best way to part ways with the car?
I'm not sure if someone would be interested in purchasing and putting in a new engine. If you think there might be someone out there interested, is the For Sale forum on here the best bet, or something like Kijiji or Auto-Trader?
I certainly wouldn't take the time or have the know-how to part it myself. Would someone actually take (i.e. buy) the car and do that themselves?
Or do I donate to some worthy cause? Kars for Kids perhaps.

Looking forward to your advice. This forum has been indispensable over the years.

That's sad to hear. Can't believe the reman only lasted another 40k?? Weird.
Our winters are car killers. Even if you do Krown the sucker every year like clock work, the salt gets onto the car in one way or another. Just destroys the life of the car.

You could sell it as a roller. I'm pretty sure there will be some people here who would like a parts car.

You'll get some feedback soon enough.

If you don't mind me asking, what's taking its place?

sell it on autotrader......

I would feel bad for the 'kid' that would get this car, not a good reliable first ride. also you can't have sex in the back. when you're 17 you need a real 4 door.

How much do you want for the car?

I have a friend that may be in the market for a project car depending on price.

parting the car at this point is worth more than selling the car as a whole. That is if you have time and expertise, like you said if you have neither time nor expertise, you will have to take a hit and sell it whole to someone. It will be low price for sure, because they will be the one doing the work to turn a profit out of it.

WTF. Lolz. Clearly you thought this through/tried when you're 17. :lol2:

People should just stick to piston engine.... this is not a car for teens.

Thanks for the feedback.

Neo - Agreed. I thought the rebuild would last longer. I decided to do it at the time not because it necessarily needed it but compression was getting close to borderline so I kind of did it at the time to just be proactive b/c I wanted to keep the car at least 3-4 more years. Disappointing to say the least. I've purchased a 2015 5 door Mini Cooper S. Tough to go back to a FwD but wanted something somewhat sporty still, good looking, better gas mileage, and needs to be able to fit my goalie gear.

yurcivicsux - Full disclosure about the engine to anybody that's interested in the car. The sex thing they can figure out for themselves.

silver143 - I pm'd you.
