About Engine light

Hello everyone. Good day with perfect weather.

I have 04 GT, generally Mazda is not my 1st choice because of the reliability.. but
I couldn't say no to my RX8. BTW, it's been good to me so far but from few month
ago my engine light starting to show on and off by itself... driving me crazy.
I have 80km right now and have extended miliege upto 100km. The engine light
comes on for about 2days and off next day. When I took it to the dealership, they always telling me bring it in when the light is ON. Does anyone having same problem? why?

From what I know, once your CEL comes up three times for the same problem it will stay on until:
- the dealer clears it
- you go thru 3 stop/start cycles without the problem reoccuring

Your best bet might be to drive it straight to the dealer as soon as it lights up next time and grab a technician to come look at it right away.

It might sound stupid so don't berate me.....but I've heard the light can come on if the fuel cap is not on tight enough. More than likely not your problem, just thought I'd mention it.

Gas cap CEL comes on at startup and will stay on until ...? Mine went off when the dealer cleared it. Second time they replaced the cap.

I've had flashing CEL under hard 3rd gear acceleration near redline but it didn't stay on.
