Revving your 8
How do you guys shut off your 8's?
In conversations about starting issues with my 8, I have been told a few different things. I am more concerned here with how to shut off the car. This is in general reference and not related to briefly starting the car to move it. I am curious to find out what others here have to say about it.
I have been told on one thread that I should rev it at 4k for a few seconds and shut it off.
The service advisor at Whitby Mazda told me I should rev it too 6.5k for a few seconds and shut it off.
Any theories on this? Any one using such a technique? If so ... where are you revving it to? What other theories do you have?

Redline it for 9 minutes before shutting off. If it wasn't designed to do that, then why did mazda do a fuel tank recall in 2005 to add extra shielding to prevent car fires from a user reving the engine for a long period of time?

This is more of a cold weather thing... a problem you don't really have in Florida :p
In general, if you're turning off the car before it's warmed up and the weather outside is relatively cold, rev the engine to about 3~4k while in neutral and then turning the car off. The theory is that it's suppose to flush out some of the excess fuel that the car is dumping in during it's warm up cycle.
Try not to go above 4k while doing this... remember... the engine is still cold and it shouldn't be placed under that much stress in that state (there's a reason why they have the warm up limiters on the 09's).
Anyways... like I said.. this is a cold weather thing... I only do this when it's cold enough outside to enduce shrinkage. When it's warm... I don't have any kind of shutdown procedures... haven't flooded my 7 or 8 once.

Yeah ... I have only heard of this previously for cold weather. But the two sources I have mentioned here are telling me I should do this all the time. That is why I thought I would put it to the forum to hear from others.

with the new ecu flash and upgraded starters on most people's cars, i don't think it's nearly as easy to flood.
it also isn't a big deal to rev it to 3-4k then switch off the ignition.

it's not... but mazda wasn't too quick to swap out starters in canada.... few people got them upgraded. So it's either live with the old one or shell out the money for the upgraded one.
Anyways... Scoot.. just make sure the engine's warm before turning it off.... otherwise just do the 3k thing.
