wouldn't really call it stripped... just no sunroof.. rims are bigger and most likely about the same weight.. better suspension n all that crap as well.

yes, no sunroof, also no option for nav, no power seats (I think), no heated seats, those kinds of amenities are no longer options. But you do get some engine improvements with any of the '09s. But no more power. Maybe slightly better handling.

If you have the opportunity DO IT! Everything on that car is hot performance wise, the deal breaker for me is the overdone piano black in the interior, the cheesy sterring wheel, and the front nose.

I would keep the 40th if it was my choice. In fact, if I had a R3, I'd sell/trade it for a 40th in a second.

Ignoring my obvious bias, how much would it cost you to exchange for the R3? Compare that price to the cost of harder springs with stiffer dampers and the 2009 LSD installed on your current car.

the card is actually cheaper for me to get....oddly the only thing i hate about my car are the things they changed on the new car...lights for one..steering wheel...and the stereo/dash is nicer and i love that rpm guage \\\greg i will for sure...i dont want those seats they are like milk crates....lol

Every test I've seen show NO advantages on the R3; maybe even disadvantages. C&D tested a '08 GT and it got better handling and subjective results than the '09 R3 they recently tested. I suspect those 19' lower profile wheels are the culprit, it's a no-brainer modification...if you want a louder and harsher ride.

Furthermore, the R3's new diff. ratios actually seems to hurt the 8's already dismal trap speed.

the 19s get the intended result. they look spectacular (imo). They arent put on there for performance, its a looks thing. I suspect they tried to get them as light as possible as to not lose performance, but they certainly arent going to gain you anything accept a harsher ride and a bigger bill of you nick a curb.

but whatever, just get the car so i can get my seats.

isn't the 40AE's rim the same design as the R3 but an inch smaller?
I saw a local dealer selling a 40AE for ~$30k. I want!!!

There's been a few tests that have seen faster slalom and faster lap times with the R3. I suspect that's due to suspension tweaks or slightly better tires. Luckily, most of that can be done to the older cars. Can't add a third oil injector for the apex seals, however, but we can premix.

that's a hard one!! no sun roof sucks!! but the rest of the R3 kinda makes up for it. However, I KINDA agree with ya on the seats. I like them, they would be sick as hell at the track, but an every day thing...I don't know. I like my current ones and think I will keep it that way

GL on your buy!

I had the same choice last week - I picked the 40th anniversary because of a couple of reasons...
1 - I'm 6'2" - I need my seat to be auto to be comfortable
2 - I luv my sunroof
3 - The suspension was upgraded with Bilstein dampers all round, and foam-filled front crossmembers to give a quieter ride (it actually is a nice ride as I've already hit a couple of pot holes)
4 - Metro Grey gets the ladies excited!

etc...
HTH.
