I think the R3 isn't available with the sunroof, not even as an option.

I think these prices are pretty high. For 41.5k, you can get an EVO, and I think for most people comparing the GT/R3 to the EVO, they will choose the EVO with little hesitation. For those who want rear wheel drive, BMW's 1 series is priced about the same as the price listed for a GT, but with better HP and torque. I predict we'll see very few 09+ RX-8s on the road.

I believe it has the Bilstein suspension from the 40th anniversary car. 19" wheels with better potenza rubber, I forget the number. Also has a kit, and 4 point front strut tower. Not to mention the crazy *** Recaros.

I guess we'll have to see what is missing compared to the GT...

The thing is GTs were always 42k, weren't they? And add 1000 for the sunroof. So 43k for a GT with sunroof??

Yes the prices are high, but these are just MSRP, I'll bet they will be knocking off a few k pretty early on...As for Evo vs 1-series vs R3...I wouldn't buy anyone of them for 40+...
Evo's interior is too horrible. Build quality control issues with the interior.
1-series, is ugly...period.
R3...I would if this were 2005...

Yes prices here in Canada have always been somewhere around 40K since the rx8 came out but that was also when the Cdn dollar was .70 US
Considering how strong the Cdn dollar has been over the last few years, msrp here in Canada should be adjusted. Someone out there is making a killing wth the favorable exchange.

Yes, but you never see MSRPs go downward in a model's lifetime (they usually go up $100 or so each yr). That's why I think they will be marking down the 09s earlier than usual to make up for the exchange, which was never included in the original MSRP.

Hopefully they will begin introducing the NEW models at a more reasonable MSRP. We'll see though when the new Mazda 6 prices start showing up.

IIRC, the R3 is cloth instead of leather. Also missing the Bose stereo and some other stuff. The key to the R3 is more race than GT. so basically less content. You do get the 19" rims and stiffer suspension.

The seats are half leather and half something else...Cloth or Alacantra.

As far as costs go, the R3 is quite a deal. The Recaro's to buy would be worth at least $1000.00 per seat plus seat tracks etc. The Bilsteins would be another $1000.00 minimum for all 4. We all know how much the 19" wheels and tires would cost, so for $3485.00 its a pretty good deal. And they are available right now! lol

Yes, if you're looking to buy an R3 vs. a GS, and the suspension and seats are exactly the ones you would choose anyway, I agree it is a good deal. I just think the whole RX-8 line is priced too high for the current competition. Hopefully LiTTleRX-8 is right in that we'll see significant incentives early in the new car's life.

#84 racing, since you work at a dealership, do you have an actual price listing on the Recaros yet?

I forgot to address in my previous post: The R3 should have the Bose, according to the earlier press release from Mazda Canada. Hopefully they didn't change their mind. Has anyone seen a Canadian spec R3 to confirm?

No pricing on the seats as of yet, I bet they would be at least $3000.00 each. Here is the list of additional equipment on the R3:

Sport Integrated front bumper and side skirts
Raised rear spoiler
Unique design 19" lightweight forged alloy wheels
225/40/19 tires
Headlight-xenon hid
Lightweight Recaro seats
DSC/TCS
Sport suspension with Bilstein dampers, urethane filled front cross member
Leather wrapped steering wheels, shift **** and parking brake handles
Bluetooth capable

Another bit of info I have also includes automatic headlight leveling.

Is this the same suspension used on the UK prodrive edition (I am not sure what the Norht American equivalent was called)?

I believe the shinkas (Special edition in Canada) have urethane filled cross members.

The 40th anniversary (Special Edition in Canada) has Bilstein dampers and the urethane filled cross members...

As for the R3, I believe it's the same as the 40th anniversary.

I'd think that all Canadian models would have Bose, as it always has been the case here.

Our spec sheet shows Bose on all Models for 2009 as standard equipment. Interesting, no one seemed to notice a final drive ratio change! The rear gear is now 4.777 in all models! That will make a huge difference in acceleration! We run a 4.88 final drive in the race car!

Bose was only available in the GT model for pre-09 cars.
One must also off-set the cost of those R3 equipment with the standard equipment cost. So a recaro seat might cost 3k. But if the standard seats costs 2k then the net is only 1k. Also the GT leather seats are 8-way powered with bum heaters. So those aren't cheap. Same with the 19" rim/tire. I feel that for this car 19" is too big already and might off-set accelerative performance due to larger diameter tires.
I wish the R3 has more power as it is supposed to be the sportiest version of the rx-8. Just don't know if this is enough to set it apart. Much like the S2k CR vs. regular S2k and the Nismo Z vs. regular Z.

Anyone can buy a US car and import it to Canada. We do not do it because of franchise agreements etc. Also on certain models the charging/systems are different as Canadian spec cars come with a "cold weather package" that most US destined vehicle do not have. We ran into some huge service problems with a US CX7 a while back, our MDS system wouldnt communicate with the cars computer and we had to do everything by phone between the US tech people and the Canadian people. fyi The size difference between the 18 and 19 inch tires are .11 of an inch.

How much would the new final drive cost from Mazda? (wonder if it is more expensive then the FEED unit).
I am thinking about a future car once the lease expires, I would want to set it up for regular track use and while the R3 seems nice on paper (marketing), in reality it offers little for the track enthusiast that cannot be gotten through the aftermarket at better price/quality.
Ex: RB sways/spring & koni yellows would probably work better then the Eibach/Bilstein set up on the R3.

The 4.777 ring and pinion have a retail price of $642.17 (your dealer may sell for less lol). I tried to find the Recaro seats but the price isnt listed yet. Keep in mind this is not a complete diff.
