2005 Canadian Model Changes
2005 Canadian Model Changes
I test-drove the RX-8 on Sunday and asked the salesman if they have received any info on the 2005.
So he came back a few minutes later and showed me a information sheet from mazda canada that said the following:
1) New Keyless Entry key
2) 2 New colours in Canada (nordic green and white)
3) Yellow discontinued.

That's why I bought my car in April - I didn't want to wait 6 months.

Sept or Oct is more likely. They released the 2004 RX-8 very early in 2003. The 2005's will be released at their normal time, not early.

A manufacturer can not sell a 2004 model vehicle for several years, it's regulated by government. Basically, they have to update the model year designation annually.
Re when it's available - NO, it's very rare for a new Mazda model year to be available in May-June. The 04 RX-8s were introduced early, and even then first deliveries were only mid July. The 05 RX-8s will be like the 05 Mazda6, 05 Miata, 05 Mazda3, and should be on dealer lots in late September at the earliest (just like every year when the new model year vehicles typically arrive).

Gordon
Yup, that's my guess as well - instead of having a separate remote module on a keychain, the key will be integrated into a module. VW/Audi have been doing this for years as well. Since the immobilizer chip is integrated into the current design key anyway, it's just as easy or easier for the key and remote to be combined.
I'd actually be interested in getting the new key/remote, depending on the size!

There's an example of the VW version below - this is two remotes side by side, one has the key blade unfolded.
However, I'd bet that the new Mazda RX-8 remote will look like that Saab key, only rotor-shaped!

For example, the Miata was introduced in 1989 as a 1990 model, and had very few changes for the 91, 92, and 93 model years. There were significant mechanical updates for 94, and then minor changes for the 95, 96, and 97 model years.

Gord96BRG: I doubt the new key will be cheap. I used to own a VW Golf, the key is better than the current key for the 8, but I rather spend money on other things for the car.
No more yellow, but now we get the green that Japan and US has from teh get go, and white. Hmm...I still like my T Grey colour:p BTW you might want to check out what Mazda Japan offers for options and toys, it makes you wonder why we don't get a chance to outfit our rides with them wonderful toys :D .
