Seatbelt question

Where are the seatbelts for the front seats?

There have been several discussions on the mounting location, but no definitive information.

Are the front seat belt mounts on the front seats themselves as shown here:

Or are they awkwardly mounted to the rear door and floor as shown here:

So it would seem. I've passed that question along so that we know for sure...

Also I see a small sqaure on the side of the front seat. Would this be a quick release to slide the front seat forward for additional room to get in the back??

several reporters have questioned why there isn't a seat release that can be reached by folks in the back. i don't think this "button" is it though as it seems to have "srs" molded in it so it would have something to do with the side airbags.

bingo. side impact airbags...

as for the seatbelts, i think the early prototypes had both, and for better or worse, Mazda has decided that the pros vs. cons war wins out with the door mounted solution... it'll make it harder for the rear passengers, but it's probably cheaper and easier to do (than making a mega robust seat), with possibility comfort advantages for larger people, or even safety reasons?? maybe Boo could ask someone who knows??? i don't know... just to say: THANK YOU BOOWANA FOR DOING EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!! :D
