Where to buy ignition parts in NZ
Sup Kiwis
Anyway long story short, I need to replace my ignition. Where did all guys buy your ignition parts from for a good price or did you just upgrade to the BHR or similar? Any help would be appreciated :) inb4 Murrrriiicccaaaaans join this thread and tell me to "zomg search newb". It's a bit different living here in New Zealand with shipping costs and different pricing. Please only comment if you have something worthwhile saying that is relevant to NZ's circumstances |
Blemished D585 coils off E bay for a song EG http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-CO...737ae0&vxp=mtr
Then RX 8 Harness to LS2 Coil Connector Truck Yukon Coil | eBay then connectors from ??? can't remember Rotorman is the guy to talk to ;) |
Thanks Brett, do you think it will be fine to run these coils on the oem tune for a few hundered ks?
I know I need to grab Mazdaedit and do a tune but I'm off to Aus in a couple weeks and heaps of bills just came in so I'm a lil tight on funds :( I will have to have a chat with Rotaman, did help you with your ignition set up? |
heaps of people run these coils on stock dwell - just not ideal . Yeah Rotorman got me sorted :)
|
may have to change mine soon just interested in what you mentioned..not ideal in which way? better than just going OEM through mazda?.. talking completely stock engine.
thanks! |

thanks! If you are not planning any other upgrades I would just stay with stock coils and buy a decent set of leads for them. |
I've been running mine for over a year with no problems - Even with the stock tune. Hampton Downs for me next weekend
|
Well i already have an intake and cat back. Am planning to do the rest of the system (just gonna decat for now), Mazdaedit tune and eventually boost (or just throw a REW in it)
So I think this is a good investment for me. I think we should start a thread on good places to buy parts for the RX8 that is New Zealand relevant. Do you think this would help the Kiwi 8 community Brett? |

I recently purchased 4x OEM coils. It was around $1k from Canterbury Mazda. I bailed up the Mazda guys about how often these fail. They said they've replaced stacks of the old revisions, but not a single Revision C coil to date. In case you haven't got your coils sorted yet, the Rev number is the last digit on the part number printed on the side of each coil. I had a mix of A and B coils - WTF?! Replacing the coils fixed my intermittent power loss at high RPM. Stoked that it wasn't a waste of money. |
It kind of was a waste of money because you spent a thousand bucks mate. I got a quote from them out of curiosity and i was gobsmacked, we really do get ripped off here.
Feel free to shoot me a pm, i'm in chch too |
If you figure it out Slidin, let me know. After my tune with Brett it seems coils, plugs and leads are up next.
|
On my 2008 40th anniversary RX8 I switched to the BHR coils and wires, and use the Nippon Denso plugs (they are better performers than the NGKs and more resistant to flooding problems). This setup has shown improved ignition performance and a slight gas mileage boost. I would highly recommend this setup.

But I would recommend going with a D585 set up such as BHR or a custom jobbie. Rotaman helped me out massively with lots of info on building my own (which I have yet to do, as my ignition issue was simply a lead had fell out lol) |
I'm hoping to do another visit to Houhoura in August so this time I will write down Rotamans number and not rely on technology!!! It's a great spot, I see why he lives there. Let the brain picking commence.
|
Ill ship you a set of coils for $900

When I was searching, I found Ebay was cheapest, A whole ignition kit could be sent for less than $400nz.

Have you tested this on your other rotaries?
|
@Slidin8 - Yeah, I could have done my coils cheaper, but that was before I learned how to search the forum. Super keen to see a DIY on your final coil build :)
Main point of my post was that it appears that Mazda 'may' have finally addressed the coil failure issue correctly. So if anyone gets any failed "rev C" coils post it up! |
For those that are interested, I just priced up OEM coils and leads at $810. That's with a discount!
|
holy svengali !
You wont be doing that then . |
Well it's an option although I'm pretty sure I can find a better one somewhere.
|
Mazmart are now selling the "C" coils as an entire ignition package on their website at $350US. I may pick up a set just because.
MAZMART - Serving The Mazda Community Since 1980. RX8 Ignition I refuse to pay ridiculous NZ prices. I want to support the country's businesses but I'm NOT getting ripped off |

After checking with Rotaman I will most likely go for it, there is no major panic but it would be nice to put something new on it.
