What are you going to replace your rx8 with in a couple of years???
AS I LIKE TO CHANGE MY RIDES EVERY 3-4 YEARS , depending on financialls i am planning to get :
1st PLAN A ; ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE V8 , VOLANTE OR GT WHICH IS rumoured to come out around 2006 priced around $230,000, big ones , ihave already set number plates aside : AMVO8 2ND PLAN B: 2007 NISSAN SKYLINE R 35 , PRICED AROUND $ 120,000 BIG ONES once again i already set plates aside :NSR35. 3RD PLAN C :Keep rx8 and put 20b rotary in to current car , re do gears clutch, body etc ,maybe upgrade to rx7 ?? However for the time being i am happy with my ride i just wish it had a bit more get up and go. WHAT if anything is everybody else planning.?? michael |

Too early to say, in my case :) I covet an M3 but if BMW's design team continue on the current (7 series, 6 series, 5 series etc) then probably not :confused: I like powerful, high tech naturally aspirated motors, relatively light-weight, and well distributed to ensure good handling. Four useable seats, not too exotic.
To some extent it will also depend on tax arrangements at the time -- I prefer my indulgences to be tax effective :p That said, my accountant says there is a lot of benefit in buying and maintaining a classic, so perhaps that will be in the mix -- Ferrari or Porsche seem to be the ones to buy there. Am happy now, too but daydreaming is fun :) |
I'll be very interested in the new RX7.
I'd love a db9 - but I would find it hard to justify - even to myself. Same with most of the top shelf jobbies. I'd be interested in an alternate fuel car if someone has the guts to build one that actually goes and doesn't have a limited range. Funny memory, my old man told me he thought everyone would be getting about in flying cars in the new century - that prediction would have been in the late 60's. |

Alternative fuels are a possibility, but I suspect they are still beyond the horizon for replacing the 8. Even our diesel is not going to reach current Euro standards until 2005! |
Before getting the '8 I was a minivan dad. I couldn't quite justify a two-seater this time around because I still drive around my teen son and occasional girlfriend. that won't last much longer. Once he gets a car of his own (within a couple years), I may get whatever is the leading roadster of the day. I consider the '8 my "stepping stone" to a more enjoyable lifestyle.

The RX7 looks interesting. The RX8 is still interesting. The Lotus elise with the 140 kW Celica engine should be suicidal. If money permits, whatever is filling the Porsche GT3 space perhaps?

My current plan is to sell my 2004 8 when the warranty is up, and get a Mazdaspeed 8.
