if a vented hood was installed and the renesis cover is removed, would there be any water damage to the engine bay if it rained?

yes, it is at the V of the bonnet. have you seen some of the bonnet with vent. they are opening holes at the exact pt

i guess with renesis cover or not. some water will get in. I worry about water to electrical system than the engine per se. it may be minimal but not w0orth the risk

Is it possible for rain to muck up the engine bay? I mean its 2005, dont they design 60000 dollar cars with these things in mind.
I've never felt the bonnet hot at all so would a vented one help cooling?

Zephyr ... you really have to judge yourself what is minor rain. Since water collects during high speed even for light shower, I will not like to see water going into the engine bay. Unless there is a tray underneath to direct water to somewhere safe.

 

The RX 08 hood was designed to present as little damage as possible to pedestrians in the case of impact. This is mentioned in RX 08 publicity material. Replacement with an aftermarket hood would undoubtedly compromise this safety aspect. I think that the safety aspect should be raised by responsible persons whenever cosmetic changes or additions are contemplated.

 

So Vented hoods for the Rx-8 doesn't come with rain free blocking trays?

 

I ask again: what ******** would you contemplate removing a safety feature from your car (in this case a hood specifically designed to reduce trauma to pedestrians or cyclists in case of impact) with an untested after-market gegaw with only cosmetic appearance?

 

And potentially could fill your electrical system full of water.. I agree it is madness!

labrat is talking the dented circles under the hood thats suppose to absorb impact of the car to the pedestrian. But no one would care about the pedestridans do we now all we care about is as long as the car it self is fine plus the vented hood will let hot air out of the engine bay and maybe a slighty better look for the car :D
but water is a problem. maybe a water collecting tray will do the trick like you said taka
