Twin Scroll Turbo

I just read that the new Mini will be equipped with a twin scroll turbo. The previous Cooper S had a supercharger.

They have cited that benefit of the twin scroll is reduced turbo lag.

I guess this begs the question as to how such a system would benefit the RX 8.

Twinchargers seem to be in fashion either by combining two small turboes or Turboes with superchargers :ylsuper:

Trying to tune a system with two different types of FI TURBO AND SUPERCHARGER should be interesting .

Cost of servicing two system should be interesting as well .

Twin scroll is a different technology from twin turbos I think, Michael.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo has it too I believe - but some kind of variable scroll is involved there afaik.

Now back to the tech heads...

It could be a similar set up to the twin screw supercharger that Hymee is working with at the moment

a twin scroll turbo has 2 sets of vanes on the exhaust side (turbine side), which when combined with a divided collector on the manifold (this isolates the exhaust pulses for less turbulence) which yields better performance from the turbo. my good friend has a 10 second civic and will be utilizing this technology next year.
